How can someone stop from hating Trump?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29259points) June 6th, 2024 from iPhone

If one feels Trump is not only a sociopathic political clown-entertainer but also a dangerous one for America…and if you also feel this to be true…is there a way to stop hating this guy?

Not that keen on getting answers on why Trump doesn’t deserve to be hated or that hating is bad. Thanks!

Hate is an internally motivated emotion. I’m not sure that you (an external force) can force/convince/cajole someone else into giving up their internal decisions.

Trump hatred is like and religion. It become part of a person’s psyche and personality; their own identity is bound up with their likes (and hatreds). So to criticize another person’s internal backbone is to criticize their own identity – and that doesn’t work well at all.

The bottom line, @mazingerz88 is that you as an external force cannot do anything; change must come from within.

But more to the point: what is the rationale for not hating Trump?

mazingerz88's avatar

^^No rational reasoning that could come from me internally. He has voters who I assume do not hate him.

Maybe you could focus more on policy and ideology, and realize that you have much in common with him. That might cut down on your extreme dislike for him personally.

mazingerz88's avatar

^^Good idea. But the loathing is much too much for that to work.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I would posit that hate is giving him more power and publicity. Every post, every journalist comment-it’s giving him the win.
So if you truly want to defeat him, remove him from your heart, mind, lips and keyboard.
Just my opinion.

Hating a man who wants to destroy the free world is a sign of good health.

Trump is like the local bar room drunk sounding off on all sorts of crazy theories. I don’t hate him, he is entertaining and amusing. But I can’t think of anyone less qualified to be in charge of the United States of America and the thought of him being president gives me the heebie jeebies.

I do not “hate” the orangutan. Just like I do not hate a tapeworm. I merely recognise that he is a dangerous parasite that harms its host and needs to be destroyed.

Forever_Free's avatar

It is a choice. Similar to other people who may be toxic to you, you just ignore everything about that person. Disconnect from them and move on with your life.
Easier said than done, but the only way to clear your mind of hate thoughts.

Neuroscientist study suggest that the brain takes the shape of the state of mind we rest upon. If we rest upon doubt, hate, irritability, it may bring out more anger, anxiety and depression into our lives. If you rest on joy, contentment and love, we bring more abundance and peace into our lives.

seawulf575's avatar

To figure out how to stop hating him, you need to really evaluate why you hate him in the first place. Separate out the stories about him that make you hate him. If you remember someone saying he is a racist, then see if you can find that actual thing he said or did to make you believe it. If it was just a story made up by his political opponents or a biased media, the take that off your plate of reasons to hate him.

You can do that for just about every single reason to hate him. He isn’t perfect, but then no one is. There will be some things that will be true, but then you have to gather together the reasons to “hate” him and see if they amount to anything worse than any other politician out there.

The biggest reason I can find that people hate Trump is because the media has told them too. They spin everything into a “another reason he is a slime-ball” attitude. The media does not report fairly…they down play everything to do with Democrats yet up play anything to do with Trump. Pretty much every single thing the Dems have done to get Trump has been made up bullshit but the media pushes it as truth. And the farther left the news outlet, the worse it is.

So if you truly want to defeat him, remove him from your heart, mind, lips and keyboard.

I don’t engage in any discussion having to do with him and rarely think of him. But he’s on the news and in fluther so often that I can’t completely remove him. With news, I rarely read any articles (and none about him), just headlines, and I’m not leaving fluther so I’m stuck with him being thrown in my face. Even in a benign question on fluther that has nothing to do with politics, inevitably someone will bring him up in one way or another. It’s like people have no control over their fingers.

@smudges I get it. Luckily for me I’ve always liked assholes so with detachment, I find it amusing (both parties) more than upsetting. Fauci has been entertaining me this week. :)

I certainly don’t hate Trump.
Do I hate that so many “Americans” support him? Yes.
I have always said, Trump without his sheep, is no different from a mentally ill homeless person screaming at the Sun…

The hate flows from the lips of people like Trump, and MTG.
Hate, is not the right word.
I am sad for, and pitty Trump, and especially his poor sheep.

I agree with @KNOWITALL. “I would posit that hate is giving him more power and publicity.”

Here’s a great example: We have a brewery here in Wisconsin that is left leaning and is using politics to sell their beer. For example they have a Dark Brandon Espresso Stout and another beer called MAGA Tears. The owner of the brewery uses the money earned for billboards in our state to help Democratic candidates. His billboards helped a Supreme Court candidate win and put us in the Democratic majority.

He now has billboards up in Milwaukee ahead of the Republican Convention next months. It reads “Nope. Not in Milwaukee” with a caricature of Trump with a clown nose. He made sure the billboards would be in view of traffic leading to the convention. This brewery receives so much MAGA hate from the rural parts of our state. The owner has a clever way of playing with the online trolls and shares some of their outlandish posts with his witty comebacks. These trolls have only made the brewery stronger with all of the attention they give him. The owner has made extra money off Tshirts with his comebacks or insults. He’s also become nationally known thanks to all the hate he gets and now sells his beer in 44 states.

If anyone is interested in helping a brewery take down Wisconsin maggots, here’s his products. https://www.minocquabrewingcompany.com/

You have to reframe the situation. Maybe blame his supporters more than him, then you can move your hate. You could try to focus on the things he has done that you agree with, not sure that I would advise that.

I don’t hate Trump, I just feel like I will be holding my breath if he gets back into office. I will be hoping nothing disastrous happens. I will hate him if it gets to the point that I need to leave the country to feel safe.

If you hate him, maybe cut down on watching and reading politics so you get a break from it. Right now is a lull, the election is still several months away. Unless you actually work in politics, then you are stuck. Maybe help get out the vote so he doesn’t win.

The situation makes me afraid and scared, more than feeling hate.

Figure out how to profit off the situations he creates, and your own brain will invent whatever justifications/moral gymnastics it needs to help you sleep at night.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Why I dislike the dude ,and no it’s not hate is his lying rhetoric ,like keep going on about these court cases being brought by the Biden administration, the New York fraud case and the hush money case are STATE cases nothing to do with Biden .

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 The only problem with that assertion is that there are questionable ties between people like Letitia James and Fani Willis and the DOJ and the WH. Those are confirmed with visitor logs showing they met with these groups prior to bringing the charges. Example: Nathan Wade met with WH Counsel twice while overseeing the prosecution against Trump. There is no legitimate reason for him to be doing this and billing the Fulton Co DA’s office for these meetings unless there is, indeed, a tie between the Biden Admin and these state cases.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

And you know this information is true ? HOW?
You have information to these logs?
Is it delivered by the same guy who had the bribe information against the Bidens?

ragingloli's avatar

@SQUEEKY2
Speaking of ties:
July 31st 2019: The Orangutan has a private meeting with Putin.
3 days later, the Orangutan requests a list of top US spies.
By 2021, the CIA reports an unusually high number of their agents being captured or killed.
During the mar a lago raid, more documents with lists of agents are recovered.

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 I know this because it was put forth as evidence in court. It isn’t a blind assertion or wishful thinking.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

And so what if these state officials met with WH ,or the federal DOJ they are still state crimes, and he was found guilty by a jury not by these officials.

seawulf575's avatar

The problem with the WH counsel, the J6 committee, or the DOJ meeting with these state officials is very simple: collusion. It stops being about any supposed crime, it becomes about a coordinated effort at lawfare. As you said and as Garland testified: these are state cases and the feds have nothing to do with them. So why are they meeting with the state prosecutors? Nathan Wade met twice with WH counsel (Joe Biden’s counsel) for 8 hours each time. Why? What does a prosecutor against Trump have to do with WH Counsel? Fani Willis met with Kamala Harris around the same time. Why? Why did they meet with the J6 committee at all? There is no reasonable argument supporting these meetings if you hold to the claim that the feds have nothing to do with these cases at all. If you start looking at reasons for these meetings, it suddenly looks like the feds are coordinating the entire three ring circus. And there are some interesting timing of things that point to this as well. Remember the release of the indictment against Trump in GA? It was pushed through, well into the night of August 14th, 2023. Why was it rushed so much? Why not do it during regular working hours even if it carries over to the 15th? Because Aug 14th, 2023 was the same day the House Oversight and Accountability committee released the testimony of FBI Whistleblower Gary Shapley. The Dems needed something to deflect to in the media. Rush the indictment and suddenly all the talk is about Trump and not about whistleblower testimony against Biden and the DOJ.

That is the “so what” about these officials meeting with the WH and the DOJ. That is why the WH and DOJ continue to deny even meeting with these state officials even though there is evidence they did. They are counting on a complicit media to cover for them. It is corruption at the highest level, an attack on democracy that is unprecedented in this country, and should scare every single American to see the tyrannical government that is currently in place.

MrGrimm888's avatar

What are you talking about?
NOTHING, has been “rushed.”

Trump has enjoyed privileges, no other people have, this entire time.
Everything, has been dragged out, as long as possible, to get Trump into the Whitehouse.

There is NO tyranny, in the current government, that doesn’t have ties to Felonious Don.
There was/is nothing wrong with the process that saw him convicted of 34 felonies.

Many idiots, act like this is a conspiracy, without understanding the biggest factor in why there are anomalies in cases dealing with Trump.
As multiple representatives of several departments of justice have said; ” there IS NO precedent, for someone like Trump.”
There has not been a former US president organize an attempted insurrection.
NOBODY in government, has EVER had so little strength of character, as Trump.
Many of his actions, are that of a person who has no loyalty but to his own interests.
ALL politicians, are self-serving.

The crystal clear problem, when dealing with Trump, is many things were not written rules.
The founding fathers, (foolishly) believed that anyone involved in the higher level of the US government, would be a person with at least SOME integrity.

Unlike the 34 felonies Trump recently was convicted for, many of his crimes, have no previous models to act on.
THAT is why EVERYTHING that has to do with him, will be strange.

And Hunter Biden, was convicted TODAY (6/11/24.)
Joe Biden, has stated he will not question the outcome.
He gave a speech on guns, after his son was convicted in a gun related crime.
The tax case, that Shipley alledges was affected by Joe, will still be pursued.
You are crying about NOTHING.
Which amuses me greatly, as most of you are saying this all guarantees Trump will win.
Pick an argument, and stay with it.

Democracy? Are YOU on drugs?
You only believe in Democracy, if you’re side wins.
You only believe in justice, if it hurts Biden.
In the words of Joe himself ;
“Will you shut up man.”

seawulf575's avatar

@MrGrimm888 Surely you remember the Fulton County Grand Jury indictment? The Grand Jury was suddenly held until well into the evening, the Clerk of Court’s office was held over, the results were finally given somewhere around 7 p.m. and the announcement was at about 8. This was the one where the clerk gave out the results of the GJ findings before the grand jury came up with them. Claimed it was a “test of the system” that wasn’t supposed to be live. That is what was rushed. Why was all that done? It wasn’t done at the behest of the GJ, it was done at the behest of the DA’s office.

MrGrimm888's avatar

The problem with spreading misinformation, is some people are dumb enough to act on the lies they are told.
I believe most J6ers, were simply caught in a moment.
I know many people went, because they wanted to look after others.
I have seen dozens and dozens, of J6ers, crying in interrogation rooms about ”answering the call of our president.”
Say whatever you want, about Trump’s role. The people, told us they were there because of Trump’s AND FOX “news’s” lies about a “stolen election.”

Those people, all spreading regurgitated lies to one another over social media, worked themselves into a frenzy.

If you’re going to go to War, it needs to be on factual information.
Trump’s many attempts at appeals were almost all lost or thrown out.

We have (and I KNOW you’ve heard it) tape of Trump trying to use (misuse) the power of his office, to commit voter fraud.
THAT’S why you hate Willis. The case, is open and shut, without this irrelevant nonsense.
Trump’s running hardest, from that trial. He has every right, to be terrified.

The mouth-breather that climbed into Nancy Pelosi’s window, with plans to use a hammer to “make her tell the truth,” is yet another example, of Trump’s lies (and the people who spread them,) causing violence.

There have been several mass casualty events, linked to conservative extremists.

As I mentioned, McVeigh, in OKC, was a radicalized Christian, and mentally broken man (from war in Iraq.)

Trump would LOVE, for YOU to be dumb enough to risk your life to harm one of his enemies.
Until he has been finally held accountable some, by civil trials, Trump has never used his own money.
All presidents, profit from office. I’ll give you that in a heartbeat.
But he is making millions, off of people he is feeding lies to.
Living in luxury, off of the mostly small donors Trump has.
People who often don’t have a lot of money, and who are too stupid to understand that they are all benefiting from things like the ACA, and lowering costs of drugs like insulin.

Trump is just a big parasite, sucking his sheep for every drop.

Perhaps. Years from now, you will have shaken this image you have been sold, by a lifelong criminal (now a convicted felon) who has you convinced he is the smartest/richest man in the world. And at the same time, a victim. WOW. That’s clearly not possible….

I can guarantee you one thing.
If you look at previous political trials, you can certainly find plenty of the same.

You do understand, if Trump never coned you into presidency, he would never have been in the trouble he’s in.

He always had legal problems, and constantly skipped out on paying people.

You need to be FAR more concerned, about a Supreme Court, that is clearly working to help Trump.

Their countless delays, and long periods “needed” to discuss legal matters regarding Trump, have pushed his most heinous criminal trials back as far as possible. You’d have to be am especially willingly obtuse person, not to see they are trying to stall until hopefully Trump gets elected again.
THAT is corruption, at “the highest level.”

So now. We will have to see, if his sheep will cause yet more violence, when Trump is sentenced.
Or, when he potentially loses in November. He has already said, and I KNOW his sheep, won’t accept election results if he doesn’t win.

There will be wannabes wearing armor, and sidearms, “monitoring” voting again.

Trump, is no Wizard. He is just a heavily spray tanned man behind a curtain of lies.

You do NOT need him.
HE needs YOU.
Because he’s using you.
That would bother me, to no end.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

One thing at one of his latest rallies he told a bunch of people in the crowd he doesn’t care about them all he wants is their vote then was stunned when they started leaving in mass, so was that the corrupt media’s fault, and if that was taken out of context, then what was the message?

smudges's avatar

^^ It was taken out of context. I’m in no way sticking up for him because I ‘strongly dislike’ him, just clarifying. Here’s the quote in context from https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-i-dont-care-about-you-quote/

“The missing context is that during the course of the speech, Trump commented several times on the excessively hot temperatures in Las Vegas on June 9 – which exceeded 100 F – at one point saying that the Secret Service had expressed concern for the crowd’s safety. Trump joked about not wanting members of the crowd to leave, claiming he didn’t care about them, only their vote. The crowd met this with laughter. The more complete quote is as follows:”

And by the way, isn’t that breeze nice? Do you feel the breeze? Cause I don’t want anybody going on me, we need every voter. I don’t care about you, I just want your vote. I don’t care. See now the press will take that, they’ll say he said a horrible thing.

seawulf575's avatar

Thanks @smudges. You did what I want everyone to do. I don’t care if you like Trump or not, but don’t buy into the manufactured crises or the created scandal. Look into the claims. As was being discussed earlier, misinformation comes in all forms. The problem is the left never admits when they are the propagators of it.

@SQUEEKY2 Why don’t you give a citation to show where you get your information from?

flutherother's avatar

The irony is that it is true! Trump doesn’t care about his supporters. He doesn’t even care about America he is entirely focussed on himself.

seawulf575's avatar

@flutherother I suggest you go back up to look at my first response to this question. You need to evaluate where you are getting your information from or why you think the things you do.

flutherother's avatar

No one told me Trump is a self-centred showman who feeds off the adulation of the masses. I came to that conclusion all by myself.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^BING!
THAT is what Trumpers don’t understand.
I’ve known Trump, since he was doing interviews on Howard Stern. He has ALWAYS been the same person.
When he was first running, he wanted Stern to announce it to the world. Stern declined.
He declined, because he didn’t support him for POTUS.
Trump’s home state of New York, went to Hillary by over 2 million votes in 2016.

These are the people who actually knew him the best, and they don’t like him either.

It’s ALWAYS very telling, when a candidate cannot even get support from their own state.

Trump HAS occasionally been quoted out of context. But, certainly no more, than any other politician.

In SC, I get ads saying Nancy Mace “supported” building 900 miles of Trump’s wall.
In ads against Mace, they say she voted not to pay border patrol.

The worst things Trump is infamous for, are things that don’t require context. Or where context, is clear.

To prove Trump doesn’t care about his sheep, you just have to look at Trump’s policies.

As far as his first term, other than tax breaks for the wealthiest, what promises did he keep?
Where is that wall? The one Trump said Mexico would pay for.
During Trump’s term, around 450 miles of the border was replaced by different structures. But. Less than 80 miles of the Trump approved wall was built.
Trump had to funnel money from other defense programs to do what little he did.
As his $18B plan for the wall, was not approved by congress.
And obviously, Mexico didn’t pay a fraction of a cent.

I LOVED his anti-elrctric boat speech. As Trump has ties and funds from fossil fuel corporations, he is opposed to alternative means of energy.
In SC, he gave a rambling diatribe about what a person would prefer; sinking and being electrocuted (because batteries would be impossible to make waterproof, and no boat could handle the weight,)
OR, if they’d rather be eaten by sharks, which apparently in his mind are usually within 10 yards of all boats.
He mentioned at least twice, that he has an “MIT connection.” And although Trump HAS NO connection to MIT, he sure seemed proud of himself with the name drop.

I guess I just rely on my senses of sight, and hearing, and that’s all that’s needed to form an extremely negative opinion on him.

The rest of us, are forced to try and understand what could be wrong with his sheep’s eyes and ears.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Wulfie everytime I do post a link to the article you simply scoff at it, as for truth I remember you wholeheartedly believing the bribe that Joe and Hunter were so guilty of how did that turn out for you?

seawulf575's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 Every time you post a link to an article, I review it and address it as it is. If you post biased, manipulated information, I call it that. But it could be that you aren’t researching enough and just accepting what you are being fed without question.

As for the bribery, here’s an interesting thought for you: a lot of that information came from Hunter’s Laptop. You know, the laptop you believed was Russian disinformation? Yet that has now, officially, been acknowledged as being a real thing. It is was just used in Hunter’s gun trial. How’d that work for him? So we can stop with the claims it was false, that Guiliani made it up, that it was created by Russians and accept that all the crap on there was true. And much of what the Republicans have gotten in their investigations came from the laptop and from whistleblowers.

So back to you researching a bit, since the laptop is no longer Russian disinformation, it points to a whole lot of corruption and influence peddling. Why aren’t you upset about that? Could it be that you don’t care how horribly Democrats act but want to create stuff about Trump? That thinking should give you pause. You probably need to reflect on where your moral compass is pointing.
