What are we to make of the rise in value of tech stocks?

Asked by LostInParadise (32098points) 1 month ago

Do you own any tech stocks? I bought Apple stocks early on and the current value is for me a fairly large amount.

Tech stocks in general have done rather well this year, much better than last year, with many going up by around 15% over last year. They can’t continue like this. Is there going to be a “correction”?

It is all just speculation and gambling to me.
Especially in tech stocks it is mostly driven by hype and expectations, or with Tesla, outright manipulation, not actual business performance.

I balance my tech stock like Apple with other funds and enjoy the ride.
Yes, some have been a winner over the long haul but many like Apple are an anomaly.
We recently studied Apple stock in a Finance class only because of being such an anomaly.

There is a race to corner the A.I. market going on in the tech sector at the moment. There is real growth with a bubble extension. An example is Nvidia, there is no doubt that their growth is real but their stock price is too high. The P.E. ratio is a dead giveaway.

Although there is a lot of hype around “AI”, there is also some fundamental changes taking place because of it. So companies like Nvidia (that makea the chips that drive AI) are not overvalued when analysts consider the growth potential.

I think there will be some tech companies that will be shaken out as development progresses. The dot com bust of 2000 did not hit every company, just those that could not deliver.

There’s an old saying…What goes up must come down. In my younger days, I worked for one of the larger brokerage firms. They believed that correction was inevitable. My broker always said sell it while it’s high & then buy again when it tanks. I’m NOT risk tolerant so I don’t have any tech stocks. Timing is everything in the world of stocks!!!

AI is taking care of their own.

@LadyMarissa , I once heard contrary advice, that you should buy stocks when the price is rising and sell when it starts going down. The idea is to recognize a turn-around and take advantage of it.
