Is Wordle becoming a pay to play?

Asked by filmfann (52399points) 1 month ago from iPhone

I keep getting notifications that I need to subscribe soon to NYT Games.
So Wordle is going away?

I haven’t seen anything like that and I play every day.

It seems to me that everything is becoming pay to play or you have to accept ads so I wouldn’t’ be surprised. I’ve been looking at CNN online for years and now they want me to pay a monthly fee. Netflix switched me to an option with ads with no choice on my part.

I know this isn’t saying anything specific to Wordle but there does seem to be a general trend.

Interesting. Didn’t know Wordle is free. I only started playing when I subscribed to the NYT two years ago.

I think you just get added tracking of your stats if you pay.

Here are two free web sites that I use. The first gives one puzzle per day and gives current win streak and max win streak.

The second one allows you to play multiple games and gives average number of guesses required for other players.

If you decide you don’t want to pay for Wordle – if that happens – you can always try Canuckle

There are probably all sorts of cheap versions of Wordle that you can find online for free so I wouldn’t worry too much.
