I suppose the ones giving to democrats are at least slightly concerned about optics.
Maybe some individuals are motivated by guilt in their old age.
I very much doubt that any of them are motivated by deeply held moral beliefs.
Because make no mistake: You do not become a billionaire by being a good person, but only through ruthless exploitation.
They aren’t any different. Wealthy people don’t spend money unless they are getting something in return. It might be support in Congress or favors in a time of need, but there are always strings attached.
All men are created equal, that is they are all equally insignificant when compared with billionaires and multi billion dollar companies. In short there is too much money in American politics. It has become a very corrupt system.
I was under the impression that billionaire lobbyists donated to both parties. To hedge their bets.
Can’t generalize too much, but billionaires supporting Democrats have a vision for the future and are concerned about health and safety for society at large. I don’t know if very far left progressives are among the billionaires influencing Democrats? I don’t think so. I think it’s more what I think of as the moderate left.
Republicans giving big donations are concerned about wanting to turn the country into a theocracy, or they donate to protect businesses from being sued and giving big tax write-offs and low taxes in general to big businesses and the rich.
Some very wealthy people give to both Democrats and Republicans. Trump said he used to when he was running in 2016.
If we imagine that money buys no favors, then Billionaires or wealthy people trying to get a Democrat elected are (at face value,) essentially turning their backs on the financial benefits to the wealthy if Trump wins and supporting the common American’s rights to programs that help everyone.
But I do think that BOTH, are really just hoping to make powerful friends.
It’s only the hidden agendas that are different.
Democrat donors want dolphins to able to vote. Republican donors want sharks to have assault rifles.
