According to Reuters, Biden is considering dropping out of the race. Which Democrats would be SERIOUS options to become the candidate, at this point.

Who do you think could actually win the presidential election as a Democrat, who would actually run — realistically.

Here is the Reuters story:

I would love for Michelle Obama to run, but she has said multiple times that she won’t, so she’s out.
I really can’t think of anyone right off the top of my head. Which annoys me, because IMHO, Biden should have stepped back a few months ago so we could have chosen wisely and not by the seat of our pants.
Thank you for asking this, because I’ve been thinking about it for a few days now.

I heard some interesting commentary today about this possibility. They mentioned how damaging it would be for the party to not choose Kamala. It would upset too many women, especially black women.

Another interesting thought would be to have Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger as her running mate. Having a never Trumper would help bring in some republicans and independents.

How smart would it be for Biden to announce his departure tomorrow, the day when the media would be talking about Trump’s speech at the convention? The democrats could steal the spotlight from Trump.

^^Interesting. Kinda fun to fantasize that if Kamala ends up getting the nomination, what if Hilary or Bernie or what the heck, Cheney runs as her VP? lol

@chyna: Exactly how I feel about the situation. Some polls show Michelle Obama winning, but it’s a fantasy at this point, sadly. I wish Biden had stepped aside much sooner to allow for a better process.

@jonsblond: I can totally see that.

Fantasizing is fun and all, but maybe it is just Kamala and a good VP choice.

Liz Cheney, is STILL her father’s daughter. Do not let her hatred for Trump, make you think she’s not just another Republican.

After watching Hillary fall to Trump, even though she was extremely qualified, I cannot understand why Michelle O., with even less experience than Hillary would ever be considered…
Unfortunately, I think most people I would prefer, want nothing to do with holding ANY public office.
Kamala, although still vastly more qualified than Trump, is not even well supported on the left leaning pages of Fluther.

I’m not saying Harris would be bad, nothing she has ever done has reached my attention though.

I have said many times, Newsome would have been THE best to beat Trump. But he would be a tremendous swing to the left of most others. His policies, once he started advertising them, are probably too radical for this moment in time.

The DNC, has completely failed the country, by not having addressed this very issue, since 2016.

I think we’re fucked either way, no matter who it is. Too many people who would vote Dem only care about making a statement and not the result of making a protest vote.

I think trying to get Biden to drop out has done so much harm. I wouldn’t doubt that the right and foreign agents are leading the charge.

Like I said. We’re fucked. I’m
So glad I’m not long for this life. I couldn’t imagine being a young American at this moment in history.

If Michelle Obama ran I think she would unite Dems and that is the only way we wouldn’t get Herr Trump.

It would be seen as an insult to Harris to be Veep but yet passed over in favor of someone else. I don’t think she’s the strongest candidate but the dems are in a pickle now. Joe and the DNV should have concluded this decision a year ago, so that Dems could have chosen wisely.

I’ve been saying for the past year that Biden can’t run and my Biden loving friends have been saying he’s sharp as a tack and nobody can stop him. Here on fluther. I’ve been saying it for quite a while, especially since the debate, and jellies have attacked me and said he’s strong and 100% fine. Turns out many politicians don’t feel he’s strong and 100% fine, but you know who would really love for him to stay in the race? Republicans. If Joe runs against Trump, he’s handing the Republicans the presidency along with the Senate and the Congress (which is what Pelosi a nd Schumer are trying to get him to comprehend).

DNC not DNV

@jca2 The Dems have never chosen wisely what makes you think they are even capable of such an action.

This is what I found today:

“President Biden is “absolutely” in the race for a second term, his campaign leader said Friday, just as more Democratic lawmakers called on Biden to leave the contest.”

NY Times just now says that he’s begun to listen more seriously to calls that he should drop out.

smudges's avatar

I think that covid coming on the heels of calls to drop out that he probably will. I feel like we’re doomed. I was voicing frustration here on fluther months ago because the powers that be were all afraid of stepping on his toes because he was the potus, so no dem would speak up. Fuck. I hate it but am resigned to trump.

NY Times is reporting that Pelosi is in favor of an open nomination process, meaning the nomination wouldn’t automatically go to Harris.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Ooh shit Nancy!
She’d work really well, to me.

jca2's avatar

Grimmy, I don’t think she’s looking to get nominated herself.

chyna's avatar

She’s 84 years old. We need someone younger, IMO.

^Women live longer than men.

Anybody wanna take bets, on who outlives the other; Biden v Pelosi?...

I’m out of ideas, otherwise.

mazingerz88's avatar

^^It will take a great toll on her health the 4 physically grueling years. She’ll not make it to 88.

jca2's avatar

Pelosi is not looking to be president.

I see the too many people on here are judging by one bad event, along with listening to all the rich media who are calling for this to happen. #RidinWithBiden

MrGrimm888's avatar

^It’s definitely mostly reactions to the debate.
I thought Biden could do it. All he had to do, was tell the truth.
He was however, a shell of himself. The only good came from seeing how stupid Trump thinks people are, when unobstructed. If we let him talk all day, he may say 1,000 monkeys chained to typewriters wrote the Bible.

A friend just texted me that Biden is out! Going to the news sources to verify. I have become convinced he had to go. Let the games begin! I am saddened that he didn’t do it gracefully sooner.

cookieman's avatar

Yup — Reuters is reporting he’s officially out of the race and gave a statement.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@MrGrimm888 “Right-wing conspiracy nuts be like, huh?..” . . . .it is called “flummoxed”

MrGrimm888's avatar

^That seems accurate. Some kind of important parts to most conspiracy theories, should have been thrown out with Biden and the bathwater.

But remember, Trump is always the victim.
I’m interested to see how the new “saved by Jesus Trump,” reacts to Harris.

The circus gets odder, as time goes on.

In less than a week;
We almost lost Trump, to an assassination attempt. Possibly by another conservative.

Now Biden is the one gone!

It’s hard to keep up, on the facts.

Someone else could be dead, before I post this.
