What are some uncontroversial uses of AI?

Asked by ragingloli (52227points) July 22nd, 2024

For example: Denoising noisy images, Upscaling low resolution images, frame generation for low framerate videos.

As opposed to image/text/video generation based on prompts, which is arguably just straight up theft.

These immediately come to mind:

• Text-to-speech and speech-to-text (super helpful for the visually or hearing impaired).
• Item identification
• Pose estimation
• Grammar correction.
• Data analytics such as clustering.

Most uses are uncontroversial. The best use I have for it is showing me how to code specific things and generating images for powerpoint slide shows.

There’s a nice automotive application. After a few days AI learns your driving habits and adjusts the engine control system calibration to maximize fuel economy, reduce emissions and increase performance. It compares your car with others and can make a prediction if something is going wrong.
Back in the stone age, 15 years ago, we called that adaptive learning.
