What British rock group toured the western U.S. on motorcycles in the summer of 2012?

Asked by Jeruba (55986points) 1 month ago

On July 10, 2012, my son and his friend and I stopped at the Mission Mountain Mercantile in Condon, Montana. We were on our way via a zigzag land route from Chicago to San Jose, hopping north and south from national park to national park.

There in Condon, where we stopped for gas, we met the members of this band, who were fulfilling a pledge of a fund-raising challenge, traveling through the Western mountains from British Columbia to Salt Lake City.

My impression was that they were well known in England; maybe also here. I didn’t know any rock bands.

We chatted and joked with them, and then they saddled up in pairs on the bikes. They led us on a two-lane Rocky Mountain road until they turned off, with much honking and waving.

I never did catch a name, but I still think of them and have several group photos.

Just wondering if this story rings a bell with anyone, especially in the UK, so I might find out who they were after all these years.

Just a suggestion, not sure this will work: if you have a pretty clear picture of any of them, open google, press google lens (should be on the right side) and take a picture. Google might be able to do a facial recognition.

Here’s what the Bing AI said:

“The British rock group Bad Company toured the western U.S. on motorcycles during the summer of 2012. This tour was part of their ongoing efforts to connect with fans and bring their classic rock sound to various venues across the country.”

(Bad Company was formed in Westminster, London. The song I most remember is Feel Like Makin’ Love)

@smudges, wow, that has to be it. Thanks! Good old Fluther comes through again. My search got me nuthin’.

Maybe I got the part about fund-raising wrong, or maybe they just meant they were here to make money.

@chyna, unfortunately I don’t have any closeups, just long shots of 19 people on motorcycles.

@Caravanfan, yeah, I don’t even try it, but thanks for looking.
