Do you think people using needle stick weight loss drugs will switch to pills if and when they are approved?

Asked by JLeslie (65783points) July 24th, 2024 from iPhone

I’m sure oral diabetic drugs will be tested for weight loss so they can sell it under the new use and get a new patent and charge lots of money.

Do you think people already using drugs like Ozembic, which is an injection, will switch to a pill if it gets approved. To clarify, I do not mean Ozembic in pill form. I mean current pill medication like Metformin (Glucophage) being used for weight loss just as an example. I am not saying Metformin is or will be approved for weight loss, it is just an example. There are other possibilities too.

People will do what they can to make that happen.

If the effectiveness is equivalent, a pill is an easier and more efficient delivery system.

I am on Wegovy. The self injection is easy, but one must be careful to properly inject the medicine. And then I am left with a “sharp” which requires special disposal. I would rather take a pill.

If a pill comes out that’s as effective as the shots, I’m sure people would prefer it. It’s a hassle to deal with injectables daily. The weekly ones like Ozempic and Wegovy aren’t as bad.

Depends on the price and the copay.

@smudges I didn’t realize the injectables are weekly.

^^ Some of the injectables are weekly, but some are daily, like Victoza.
