Will you ride in a commercial airplane with transparent wall and ceiling?

Purely theoretical of course, an airplane engineered with its entire roof and siding made of transparent material strong enough to give people a safe ride.
Restroom, cockpit walls and floors are not see through btw.

I just saw an ad or meme for an airplane with a glass floor where the aisle is. I thought to myself my husband would freak out. Lol.
I don’t think I would be interested in flying in a plane with a lot of glass to see out. Maybe larger windows in some parts of the plane. Didn’t the 747 sometimes have an upstairs lounge? I don’t even know if 747’s still fly?
Sometimes you want the flight to be dark. Plus, more radiation maybe with the sun coming through the windows?
Not if it is made by Boeing
Sure, @mazingerz88 if the FAA tests it and sees it as safe. I think it would a really fascinating ride.
Having said that, I doubt there is a transparent material that has the strength and pliability necessary, so this isn’t a decision we need to deal with at this time.
@elbanditoroso That reminds me of Star Trek 4 or 5 where Scotty had a formula for making transparent aluminum. lol
FAA tests may not be enough for me. I probably would wait 10 full years with zero incidents.
That would be so cool, yeah if I had the chance I wouldn’t turn it down.
And look at all the wiring and insulation and stuff? Yuck.
But really, I know what you actually meant, and I probably wouldn’t like it. Not very cozy, and susceptible to laser attacks.
Would remind me too much of this
Will Wonder Woman be there?
Alledgedly, the helmets for the F-35 fighters, allow them to be able to see through the cockpit. So they have a 360° view.
As for me? That would be a Hell no.
I’m not a fan of transparent kayaks either. Not for me.
@Zaku I thought about her too.
No, but not because I’m afraid of heights or anything. I just don’t like the sun on me.
It would mean less panic when a door flies off.
@Caravanfan They would need to offer sunscreen at the airport.
Sounds like Wonder Womans invisible plane so I’ll go if she’s aboard. Otherwise this acrophobib will pass.
*I still find it ironic that my bio dad was a pilot and my brother and I both are scared of heights. :)
That would be a fun experience. I’d put 2 layers of polarized glass with liquid crystal polarized glass so you can dim them if you don’t want to look outside or have the sun on you.
No because flying in a tin can with possible engine problems is nerve racking as it is. But I would fly in one with realistic 3D drawings that make it look like the bottom and sides are moving clouds as your vision shifts. Or if the top of the plane has a drawing that looks like God is peeking through the ceiling. LOL I say make it fun.
^^Now that’s a cool realistic idea…and safe.
@Pandora
Someone will hack it and put some virtual Russian MiGs in it attacking the plane. Or flying saucers.
Now that would be hilarious.
I am afraid of heights but would love to fly in one.
Rather than design a plane made of glass why not simply strap willing passengers into little insulated pods fitted under the wings of a standard plane. These passengers could then see everything below them without inconveniencing other passengers.
@mazingerz88 “strong enough to give people a safe ride.”
If it was equally strong as other commercial planes, not just minimally acceptably strong, then I’d consider it if there was a steep discount and I could wear a blindfold.
I loathe air travel so it’s a hard no for me.
I’m pretty sure the transparent floors would be covered with vomit.
^^Yes, but the view of the starry heaven in the evening will be spectacular!
@filmfann That could be the least of it. It sounds like a terrifying experience.
