Mods, does Fluther recognize that I'm using VPN right now?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23796points) July 28th, 2024

I’m using Edge to go to Fluther right now, and Edge offers the option to turn on VPN. I don’t know if it really is VPN as I know it or just some fancy word for something else. And besides, I don’t know if it makes Fluther think I’m browsing with a dubious IP address. So mods, do you see anything wrong with me right now?

Just want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong so that I won’t get banned by the system for no reason.

I think Flooder probably recognizes that you are, but I don’t think the means with which you’re using your account matters to them.

When I was on jury duty, I used a PC at the courthouse to login and post, with no problem.

The IP is ordinarily just incidental data to Flutter, unless they saw some evidence that someone hacked your account.
I guess in that case, they might use the IP info to help track the hacker.

@Brian1946 so if I’m kidnapped and someone got accessed to my Fluther to impersonate me to make people believe I was ok, then I hope Fluther would help track down my kidnapper and save me :)

It is just another server, VPN or not..

The Fluther site recognizes you by “Username” and connected “Password” .
