Once the republicans have outlawed birth control, will they pass a law for all fertile women to take fertility pills?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33449points) 1 month ago

It seems like that would fit into the JD Vance world view.

Would women of childbearing age be forced to take fertility pills in order to be parents?

It wouldn’t surprise me. However, surprisingly, he voted against the IVF bill. I see him as a control freak who only wants to force people to do what they have NO desire to do no matter what it is!!!

canidmajor's avatar

Probably not, as they seem to be going for “natural” conception. And really, why miss out on another way to castigate women? I mean, we all know that infertility is always the fault of women. <eyeroll>

The Handmaid’s Tale will answer all your questions about their motivations.

Then outlaw viagra.

The Republicans are getting more and more scary every day, and they call the left evil.
Right now I wouldn’t doubt they would do something along those lines.

Any body else worried that all that speculative fiction about the US’s propensity to fascism seems to be coming to pass

They will just legalise marital rape.

I saw a cartoon, many years ago, in a “Hustler” magazine.
The magazine, was not just smut. It actually had a lot of extremely (I’ll say) polarizing cartoons.

Anyway. The cartoon I saw, was a still of a town square or neighborhood. Everything was normal, except men were “walking” naked large breasted women, on leashes (like dogs.)
There were other details that I will omit. But.

I AM a big fan, of offensive humor. I want to say there was a caption, that said man world or something like that.

All the males had redish rosy noses, and were of course white, and appeared upper-middle class. A whole city, where women were essentially no different from dogs. And men, of course, were all happy and there wasn’t a woman that wasn’t on all fours, naked on a leash.

I guess I remembered that cartoon, because of the sheer offensiveness of it.

At that time, I was probably 16 years old. It gave me a chuckle.

In the past few years, I have kept seeing that cartoon in my head.
It’s not so funny anymore.

I don’t think we’ll be walking naked chicks around. But the conservatives are aggressively attacking women’s rights.
I firmly believe, that one eventual goal of the conservatives, is to take away a woman’s right to vote.
With what Trump said, maybe nobody will ever vote again.

I am completely failing to grasp what, if any good could come of this oppression of women.
Do any of these men, really love any of the females in their life?

I don’t wish to focus on it, but I can at least see both sides of the issue. Although I agree that whatever goes on with a woman’s (person’s) body, should be their business.

No offense ladies, but I couldn’t be a woman. I can barely keep up, with the lower maintenance of my gender.
The whole, women’s health thing, should be a woman’s right. *If the conservatives think we are the result of “intelligent design,” (by an omnipresent deity, who loves us) then the “creator” chose for the reproduction to be almost solely the responsibility of the female gender. To believe that a deity gifted just the females of our species with the ability to potentially make life, why not believe that deity knew what it was doing.

This really has nothing to do with women.

It has to do with the current excuse for a SCOTUS, that has been crafted maliciously to do the bidding of the conservatives.
And conservatives, want to make the US a Christian version of Pakistan.

@MrGrimm888: ”This really has nothing to do with women.” Um…yes, it does.

If you are fertile why would you be ordered to take fertility pills? You think they will want twins and triplets?

JLeslie's avatar

@canidmajor I know about the Christian push to have big families, Muslims and very religious Jews have that same push.

Actually doping women up with fertility pills when they are already fertile, I’ve never heard of that, but I guess maybe some fanatic might try to push that. It puts women at more risk.

MrGrimm888's avatar

@canidmajor I just meant that women have not done anything wrong, to deserve to have their rights reduced or straight taken.
To me.

Repub women are not liking that talk about “single cat ladies”.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

It is ”Childless Cat Ladies”. Vance has history of putting down childless. https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/30/politics/kfile-jd-vance-history-disparaging-people-without-kids/index.html

Just another case of hatred by the GOP – - black / brown skinned, Jews, Muslims, cat ladies . . . .

I won’t say that this is a very common thing, but I am certain that some husbands tell their wives whom to vote for.

Down south, there are still married women who are little more than servants.

I know my grandfather was an awful man, and mmy grandmother was like a slave.
She couldn’t drive. She had almost no observable life. She cooked, cleaned, and di exactly what he said. Otherwise he’d be very violent. I can’t recall him hitting her, but she was afraid of him, and at the same time she wanted him to be happy. Like it was part of her responsibility, that her husband was happy and taken care of.

I see relationships like that still.
I used to see it a lot, when I sold guns part time. There were some very stereotypical southern families that frequented those places.

Older men, who can’t be bothered with things like paperwork, have their wives buy guns for them. In the Holiday season, when we had sales on firearms, the women would stand in the long lines and of course it was their background that got checked.

Again, I wouldn’t want to speculate how many, but I know some women do everything they’re told, including vote as their hubby wishes.

I have trouble thinking that there are many marriages, where the husband is voting as his wife demanded.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

There is the problem . . .southern wives from the sixties will be the norm for 2025. ! !

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Oh no! I hope not.

jca2's avatar

I think the Republicans would like society to be a cross between Handmaiden’s Tale and Stepford Wives.

ragingloli's avatar

The Vance prick also floated the idea of giving votes to children, which the parents then would cast on their behalf. giving more voting power to conservative christians who breed like rabbits.

jca2's avatar

@ragingloli Ironically, it would give more voting power to Muslims and Hasidics, who also both tend to have more children per household.

ragingloli's avatar

@jca2
Yeah, but those will all get deported/interned/gassed, so it is not a problem for the right wingers.

MrGrimm888's avatar

Yeah. Unfortunately. Republicans go out of their way, using often questionable tactics, to keep people from voting.

When more people vote, statistically, the dems win.

Most of the past several republican presidents, actually lost the popular vote.

The idea, as Trump suggested, is no more voting. EVER.
In a very poorly veiled manner, the right is destroying democracy in America.

Christianistan. God bless Christianistan!!!
