How did Alexa recognize my mother?

Asked by syz (36034points) July 31st, 2024

Mom and I house-sat for my sister in the Keys, and my sister’s Alexa answered Mom by name (we both heard it). How did it know? I don’t think she even had the Alexa ap on her phone at that time, though I did.

Maybe your Mom’s device was on the same network (WiFi) or logged in to her Amazon account, and Alexa tracks that.

I imagine she (Alexa) heard your mother talking to your sister somehow.

i disabled my Alexa when it started participating in conversations I was having with a friend in another room.

We have no smart speakers in the house, wife works for a government contractor.

The Alexa may have heard your sister talking to your mother on speaker phone.

I’m not paranoid…but I’ll never have Alexa.
