Do white store bought eggs need to be refrigerated?
I can buy 15 dozen eggs for $65, and I might not have enough room in my fridge for all of them.
Else I can order 30 count eggs for $11.

Yes, they need to be refrigerated. Also note that eggs go bad if they’re not used quickly. Don’t buy a huge amount.
Does Canada wash their eggs? Then they need to be refrigerated. If you are buying in bulk, you definitely should refrigerate them. Even freeze them if you are buying that many.
@ragingloli said it right if they have been washed then yes you need to refrigerate the.
@all Thanks. I will order a 30 count package of large white eggs tomorrow.
Are you sure about the pricing? I can buy 36 (3 dozen) for $6.99 and 15 dozen for $34.95. Even with the exchange rate your 15 dozen should be around C$47.00. Maybe shop around?
@smudges Yes. I will look around. Thanks.
Costco has 60 eggs for $21. , ~$0.29 per egg.
Americans do something weird to their eggs removing the protective outer membrane allowing bacteria to enter the egg and make them go off.
The eggs we get in Europe dont need to be regurgitated and last longer.
@reddeerguy1 I think you might want to buy fewer than 60 eggs.
@Hawaii_Jake I cook 2–4 eggs a day in my microwavable egg poacher. Would last 15–30 days. Should that be ok?
Yes, in the coldest section of your fridge That means, don’t put them in a door rack where manufacturers continue to build in an egg holding mechanism.
Your prices are not impressive. I just paid $2.69 for a dozen.
@SnipSnip $0.22/each is a great price for eggs. Congratulations.
Those prices sound pretty HIGH to me!!! I know in the US all store bought eggs are washed before being boxed. Washing the eggs weakens the shells, so they should be refrigerated immediately. Now, fresh laid eggs from a farm don’t have to be washed & will sometimes last up to 30 days without refrigeration. They are also considerably more expensive!!!
The commercial eggs definitely keep in the fridge. If you get local directly from a farm it might be fine at room temperature, but I would still put them in the fridge, why risk it.
If you have eggs past their due date you can put the egg in a bowl of water and if it stays on the bottom it is ok, if it floats it is bad. I often keep my eggs past the sell by date, maybe up to two weeks at the most.
@RedDeerGuy1 if you buy 60 eggs, eating 2 each day will mean you finish them in 30 days. If they are fresh when you buy them, you should be ok.
Going forward, you can store white eggs outside of the refrigerator if you put a light coating of mineral oil on them. They will be good for months. I saw one website where they kept them for a year and had only one out of 18 go bad. Side Note: To check to see if it is bad, put the egg in a glass of water. If it floats, throw it out. If it sinks, it is good.
Eggs have a tremendous amount of cholesterol. If you need to watch how much cholesterol you consume, so much egg might be bad for you. Some people have no problem with it, so I can’t guess your situation.
Eggs keep in my refrigerator for about two months, no problems.
I don’t think I’d eat 2 a day for more than a few days a month.
I remember driving 35 miles to a farm that sold honey by the pound and fresh eggs (all different colors) great times ! Some times I think the hen was sitting on them an hour befroe I bought them. I still put them in the frig.
@jca2 Over the summer breaks in school my grandpa would make me 3 eggs to dip in buttered toast (soldiers) for breakfast, and I had no problems. Was delicious.
My doctor wants me to have no more than three eggs a day. I will follow her order.
Yeah, in the US, store-bought eggs should be refrigerated to stay fresh.
Watch your cholesterol, big guy.
I don’t suppose you like egg whies?
Unless you have a very particular genetic makeup dietary cholesterol doesn’t affect blood cholesterol. Blood cholesterol depends on the types of fats and the amount of sugar in your diet. Too much sugar will increase your cholesterol way more than eating eggs.
Storebought are always refrigerated. I use farm fresh and leave in the pantry but this batch was washed so I had to refrigerate.
Also storebought are usually 6 months to a year old, so try to buy local from a farm stand if you can. :)
Also, just to clarify: It makes no difference what colour the egg is. There is no difference between white and brown eggs.
