Is anyone currently working on developing a vegan egg?

And by that I mean a complete package consisting of a vegan egg white analogue, with a vegan egg yolk suspended within it, contained in a vegan outer shell.

Some years ago – maybe 2–3 – I read that one of the synthetic food companies was in the early stages of researching this. It’s pretty easy for them to create the egg white (albumen) with the various nutrients in it. What the couldn’t do was get the yolk right. (But this was a couple years ago).

My guess is that if they can figure out a way to get the yolk chemistry correct, they would commercialize as quickly as they could – it would be a huge seller (and savings to the poultry industry).

[Note: there are a number of vegan egg substitutes on sale in the US, but they aren’t full egg substitutes, more like synthetic scrambling substance]

I’m going to say no.
But. I saw this thing online (so it must be true,) that they have fake eggs, in China.
I don’t know how “vegan” they are, but they aren’t eggs.

You can get a soft tofu that looks and feels a lot like egg whites.
