Yes. After Nixon took office, we had bumper stickers that read “Don’t blame me—I’m from Massachusetts.” We were the only state that went for McGovern instead of Nixon in 1972. As you may know, things didn’t turn out so well for that administration.
California went for Nixon twice.
Here are the Republican governors that I remember (I’ve changed the names for my amusement), and their years in office:
Raygun 67–75
Pukemejian 83–91
Wilsonofabitch 91–99
Schwarzenbarfer 2003–2011
Here’s a comprehensive list.
@Brian1946 Thanks. I thought that the governator was Democratic? Seing he married into the Kennedy family? Via Marriea Shriver?
@RedDeerGuy1
Our incucumber gubner, Gavin Newsance, is Democratic.
He was married to Kumberly Guilfoyle. They were divorced in 2006, and now she’s hangin’ with Trump Jr.
Nudesome is now married to film director Jennifer Siebel.

@Brian1946 Sorry I meant Arnold Schwarzenegger? Ex-husband of Maria Shriver. Until recently with one of the family running for independent for president, I had thought that the Kennedy family was mostly to all Democratic party faithful?
Shwarzenhonker was a Republican governator.
I think the Kennedys probably regard Ahnold as being more tolerable then RK, Jr.
I don’t remember the details regarding Schwarz’s and Shriver’s views on the apparent political anomaly.
So many states will vary on what they predominantly will vote for President vs what party they vote for for governor. There is a large divide between local and national issues. Governors have to be laser focused on issues important to the state. Massachusetts, Minnesota, California to name a few are heavily democratic led in state government but have had their share of great Republican Governors.
New York is another example of a Democratic state that will occasionally elect a Republican governor.
