I like watermelon, other melons and grapes year round. I live in NY, and there’s nothing growing in the northeast during wintertime, so just about every fruit and vegetable is “out of season” in NY during winter.
Blueberries but South American blueberries make it a little easier for year round !
Root beer float
Corn on the cob
Pomegranate and sweet corn.
Nectarines.
@smudges Root beer float has a season?
Root beer float at the A&W drive-up was definitely a summer-only thing when I was a kid.
In winter I miss the city farmers’ markets and the country roadside produce stands.
figs, asparagus, garden tomato’s
I agree with @jca2 — Melons. I’ll also add blueberries and corn on the cob. In New England, these are only locally grown in the Summer, so it’s a short window.
Anything with pumpkin in it
Fruitcake
Eggnog
Cranberry sauce
Cadbury eggs
Maine blueberries, garden tomatoes and cucumbers, new england sweet corn
@Call_Me_Jay Yesss! A&W all the way! Remember the different sized drinks? Papa, Mama, and Baby/Kid.
@JLeslie Yes, in our family, floats were definitely a summer-only thing.
It’s wild how many “seasonal” fruits and vegetable are now year round. Strawberries are now in the stores all year long, as is asparagus. With canned pumpkin, a pumpkin pie is never out of season.
My grandfather’s birthday was April 25. His birthday dessert was always Strawberry Shortcake, because fresh strawberries would appear in mid April.
Fresh strawberries. I prefer to sweeten them myself!!! Watermelon, cantaloupe, & black cherries.
I bought a cantaloupe yesterday at the supermarket and it was about ¼ smaller than the usual size. I hope it’s not a new trend. All of the ones in the bin were small like that.
@jca2 Where was it grown?
I am not sure @JLeslie. I looked at the sticker on the melon and it just specified “US.” I looked at the store flyer and it didn’t say.
@Forever_Free: Yes! Maine blueberries are the best. Even here in Massachusetts though, they only seem to be available for about a month.
Oh, I forgot one: gingerbread.
I like watermelon. It’s so sweet and juicy!
^^ ...and I love how you can smoosh it against the roof of your mouth with your tongue!
Yep. I also like the sound it makes when you bite into it.
It’s an experience for all the senses. Yum!
