What is the spiritual gift of discernment?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24801points) 3 weeks ago

A friend told me that he has that gift. Please share more detail?

Or could it be wise and or charismatic?
Or a high sence motive skill?

I think you can ask your friend.

I get very suspicious of “spiritual gifts”. It’s so easy to fake them.

@Hawaii_Jake I out of contact with him as he was living in Jasper when It burnt down. I will call him now. Thanks.

I you didn’t get ahold of your friend, read this. He may very well be telling the truth & he might be having dreams of grandeur.

To me it’s just God/universe talking without words. A nudge you cannot ignore.

Discernment, in a Christian theological or doctrinal context, is a gift of the Holy Spirit that enables the receiver to discern whether a particular gift is the product of the Holy Spirit or some other unholy spiritual source.

@all I talked to my friend for the past hour or so. I had a good conversation. Thanks.

It isn’t spiritual or god-related, and it isn’t discernment.

It’s plain old “looking at facts and being analytical”.

Most people can’t do that, so they dress it up with spiritual bullshit to make it look special.

@elbanditoroso The question asks about the “spiritual gift of discernment” which refers to a specific idea or phenomenon in Christian theology.

From the link @LadyMarissa posted, it sounds to me like a(n overly) Christian spin on intuition.

First, you should cultivate the art of discernment. Once you have achieved perfection in this, and it may take a lifetime, then you will have within you the spiritual gift of discernment only you will not be inclined to tell anyone else about it.

It means judging through wisdom, often knowing and identifying good and evil.
