Is it realistic when Trump says that his administration is going to pay for IVF or make the insurance companies pay for it?

Donald Trump was recently interviewed about his views about abortion (where he said he thinks 6 weeks is too soon and he wants to “extend the weeks) and also about IVF (fertility treatments). He said he is going to have his administration pay for it or “make” the insurance companies pay for it.
The news anchor (mainstream news) said it could amount to over a billion dollars, as the treatments for IVF are about 20k each, and it often takes two or three “tries” before an embryo results.
I’m not asking to argue, because I honestly don’t know that much about it, as it wasn’t something I ever dealt with but is it realistic for him to say his administration is going to pay for it or they’re going to make insurance companies pay for it? I think some insurance companies pay for it now, on a limited basis, but I am not sure if all insurance companies pay for it.

He is just pandering to the frightwing angelic vote, like his border wall it will never happen.
I’d like to see the link to where this was said.
I will let you in on a secret:
he is lying
I’m having flashbacks to when he said he would make Mexico pay for building the wall. I believe that we are still waiting for a check from Mexico!!!
Even seawulf575 doesn’t seem to believe it.
It is reasonable to believe he said it (I saw that clip on the news this morning); it is delusional to think he will follow up on it.
This is the same guy who blames the cost of bacon on wind power.
I’ve had insurance that covered IVF. Some insurance it’s up to two tries of harvesting eggs.
I’ve had insurance that only covered the medication for IVF.
I guess there is insurance that doesn’t cover it at all.
The price is ridiculous, it probably shouldn’t be more than $10k, even that seems insane. If a colonscopy is $1k-3k then I can’t see why an egg retrieval would be more. The medication for the cycle is probably overpriced. The labwork is another fee and maintaining frozen embryos. If the government got into the mix maybe the price would be controlled more, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
I doubt he can force insurance companies to cover. Didn’t the supreme court have a case that insurance doesn’t have to cover birth control? IVF would fall under the same thing regarding Catholics. It’s the Evangelics who are ok with IVF, the Vatican is not.
When he does accordion hands, he is knowingly lying. When he isn’t, he is just saying things that he thinks people want to hear (true or not).
He is talking out of both his ass and mouth at the same time.
He is scrambling for votes from the the “middle of road voters.
Lies. The republicans (a) won’t pay for additional health care, (b) see IVF as anti-christian because some embryos are not used, and© tend not to live up to promises.
This is pandering, Trump will never sign anything to make it happen because the religious right won’t support it.
Don’t believe a word.
I saw it as unrealistic, because of his base. He’s going to have to stop saying things like this, or he’ll lose some of his most loyal sheep.
Trump IS a habitual liar, and frequently makes proclamations that are illogical or beyond the scope of his power. He still can’t understand that he can’t just waive his hand and make things happen…
@elbanditoroso I think Christians don’t know some embryos get tossed, and when they do IVF themselves they can opt to use all embryos that survive in-vitro. The Catholics are more aware I think because the Vatican actually does consult with doctors and scientists on medical matters.
You might have seen me write before that Rick Scott, former governor of Florida and currently a senator of Florida, has campaign commercials out saying he supports IVF and has grandchildren from IVF. He was actively running on supporting IVF the past few months. I had a few IVF discussion years ago when I lived in the South and every time I discussed it Christian Republicans were fine with it because it makes babies. I said from the beginning the Democrats are overestimating the topic of IVF being a way to beat the Republicans.
Are you finding in your state that most Christians are against IVF?
From the very beginning I realised it wasn’t realistic to believe anything Trump said as he has no concept of truth.
@JLeslie I think Christians are very aware that some embryos get tossed. I’ve had many conversations with Christians I am close to that know this and that’s why they are against IVF.
Funny, they aren’t thinking that condoms are the same thing as they are throwing or flushing sperms down the toilet.
@chyna Thanks for chiming in. Maybe it’s a split in the Christian community whether they support IVF or not.
@jca2 Thanks for the video. So the question is whether it’s realistic that he could do this or not? That is a resounding “it depends”. This is one of those things where if he wants to pay for it, it will likely not happen, but he could get the insurance companies to pony up the money for at least some treatments. The reason I say if he wants to pay for it the chances are slim it would happen is because the POTUS doesn’t control the purse strings…congress does. And as we have seen, if Trump wants it, the Dems will fight tooth and nail to prevent it.
@chyna I asked for a source not because I didn’t believe it would happen or not, it was because too many times I’ve seen questions where someone took something Trump said completely out of context, gave it a completely new meaning and then asked the question about it. I like to get back to the sources as much as possible to fully understand the issue.
