Were you always clear what you wanted to do and did it cause conflict with others?

Asked by JLeslie (65789points) September 4th, 2024 from iPhone

Only in the last few years am I relatively clear what I want to do in my life. Previously, I didn’t have something I loved to do that I wanted to do as much as possible. I didn’t have specific goals, I mostly more moved forward situationally.

Now, I find myself trying to work out getting what I want and trying to make sure my husband gets to reach his goals is more complicated than ever before. I attribute it to my stronger feelings about what I want.

This is not about career goals, but that is included, it is about anything you want or love to do. Examples: travel, own a boat, start a business, achieve a specific position at work, but a house you always wanted, retire, dance, etc.

This happens between children and parents, not just spouses, and can happen even between friends.

What was the process you went through?

Yeah we were clear about not wanting children ,and her side of the family had a huge problem with it they finally eased up after we were married for 10 years.

I was always very clear but sometimes made too many concessions for others.

This is a very personal question to me. I often know what I’m doing but I’m unfortunately surrounded by people who are fixed in their thinking and don’t want to be challenged. I have been beaten down a lot because I want to do certain things. It causes me to have doubt in myself. It makes it difficult for me to know what I really should do.
