Has the VR (virtual reality) fad died?

The technology was not quite ready when they started rolling it out. VR made some people nauseous, the sets required a bunch of clunky connections, there were limited games and it was relatively expensive. This next gen is quietly coming back with people who are still wanting it. IMO it will be a slow burn and remain niche with gradual tech improvements until it’s eventually commonplace.

A coworker brought a headset into work and showed me an adult video on one of those….so I feel like that’s gonna catch on quick, even though I’m personally not into it, I can see the appeal.

Not in our house

I’d say it’s still in its infancy. The headsets are still heavy and bulky and that will change over time. Apple’s theisis for the future of AR/VR is certainly interesting. The idea of having “spacial computing” where you have multiple windows open in various physical locations is intriguing. For example you can put a timer window for the pot of pasta, literally above the pot of boiling water and the journal you’re working on in your reading nook, and your YouTube window over by the sofa with your work presentation open on your office desk.

There are some dystopian qualities to it, but there are some pretty amazing aspects too like reliving memories in 3d video that fee like you’re there in the moment. I think it’s way too early today VR is a fad on the way out.
