Thanksgiving and Christmas in Maine.
Breathtakingly quiet and serene. Fresh snow, crisp cool air, crackling fireplace.
Perfect setting to stay inside and enjoy the Holiday
Paris, France. I have been there twice and go back there in a heartbeat. History and beauty. And good food.
In the US, the Washington DC area (including Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia) for its historical value.
In the US probably New Mexico for the sheer rugged beauty, or the beautiful green forests and clear springs in Arkansas.

@elbanditoroso thats interesting. Most people in the UK I know that have been to Paris hated it… I’m still tempted to go.
@KNOWITALL Doesn’t have to be the U.S, I’m from England. But I do want to come back to states at some point so I’m noting down American places to visit.
In 1979, my sister in the Air Force was stationed in Japan. I went to visit and she arranged for us to spend Christmas in Guangzhou, China. China had just recently opened up to Western tourists, so it was very special and bizarre. Coolest Christmas ever.
Probably the valley of the Dordogne in France or Scotland. Maine and Yosemite in the US.
And P.S. Jellies “Holiday” in the UK just means the same as vacation to us.
Aruba all included resort 2006 – -my wife booked it in September 2006. Room was cheap because they were under-booked, Then we arrived and found out food and liquor for a week was an additional $ 350 for both of us. We ate and drank three times that ! ! LOL
Thanksgiving meal was at their banquet room “all you can eat” ! The turkey was moist and delicious.
In 1977, I read a mountaineering magazine that featured an article about some Czech climbers who summited Makalu.
Later that year, I and some other Sierra Club members embarked on a trek around the Annapurna massif.
Along the way, I met a Czech man who said he had recently ascended Makalu.
I asked him if he was with Aleš Kunaver and Marjan Manfreda, who were on the ascent team about which I had read.
He said he was, and that my mentioning it made him feel like we were all friends.
I felt the same, but oddly enough, I never got his name. :-p
A few years ago, there was a Jeopardy contestant who said that he gave his wife an Annapurna trek as an anniversary present. I felt like we were soulmates a trois.
Oh! Is @MilkyWay from the UK? Then I misunderstood the Q. Favorite destination was Fiji. Great people, good food, spectacular location.
@janbb thank you lovely, I forgot silly British English xD
Yes I’m from the UK sorry for the confusion folks
@MilkyWay I think I knew that long ago, lovely to see you back!!
While we’re on this subject, where are the Midlands, @MilkyWay?
The best destination is Balconia.
Royal Tyrrell museum of Paleontology. In Drumheller, Alberta.
I usually love the places I go on vacation.
I loved Hawaii. I love Cape Cod and went every year from around age 18 until recently. I loved Ireland and went several times. I love Maine. I love Wyoming and Montana. I really enjoyed California and driving down the coast.
So many great trips. Many of those destinations are places I’d seriously consider moving to. It’s not necessarily a practical idea but it’s a good thought.
@Brian1946 I live in the West Midlands, in the historic city of Coventry. If I take the fast train I can get to London in under 90 minutes. The UK is tiny compared to the States. Blew my mind when I visited back in 2017. Took 6 hours to travel from Yuma to the Grand Canyon
@jca2 oh that sounds lovely, I know the feeling well. I’ve often felt like moving and living in places I’ve visited but so many logistics and practicalities to consider. Still a fun fantasy eh?
@MilkyWay It really depends on your interests. Obviously the beauty is different across the states but are you doing activities or touring monuments or ?
We recently met up with lovely Canadians visiting all coaster theme parks. :)
@KNOWITALL Fair point. I’m more of an adventure type traveller, I love nature, hiking, history, culture, food. Not too big on resort type holidays or staying in one place, or theme parks for that matter xD
One of my dreams is to do a road trip of the states, its impossible to really see much in one trip.
@MilkyWay I so much would rather drive to a destination than fly there. I hate flying but there are some places that it’s not practical to drive to.
Two years ago, we did a road trip to Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana. That was great and everything worked out well. We also did a road trip to Wisconsin the year before. This year we did a road trip to Michigan and Chicago and then when we came home, we drove to Maine.
We were planning to go to Alberta this summer but between other circumstances and the fires in Canada, we decided to postpone.
I have a few at the top of my list.
One of my favorites was an Alaskan cruise. We first spent the day in Vancouver, BC, which is a lovely city, and it was my second time there, and then boarded the cruise ship for Alaska.
Acadia National Park campgrounds in Maine – on the ocean
Sanibel Island in Florida – in the ocean
