Would this second assassination attempt make someone more or less likely to vote for Trump?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33550points) 2 months ago

Any voter must observe that Trump is a target – people seem to want to shoot him.

Why would a person decide to vote for guy that people want to kill? It would be like buying a dozen eggs that have a ‘use before’ date of a couple weeks from now.

I’m not minimizing yesterday’s news. I am trying to understand the motives of Trump voters.

I can see people thinking “look what a great man he is! They want to kill him because of the great things he will do for our country.”

JLeslie's avatar

I don’t think it changes a thing. I think his diehard supporters think he is amazingly brave, and are worried for his safety.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

It probably tips the scales in his favor a bit.

janbb's avatar

I doubt it may move the dial much but as @Blackwater_Park it may tip the scales a bit – to mix a few metaphors.

Assassination attempts have nothing to do why a person votes for Trump. Conservatives have two choices: 1. Vote for Trump. 2. Don’t vote.

There is no way that a conservative voter will vote for a far lefty like Harris. Yes I know that Harris has recently quickly shifted her positions to the right in order to get votes. Mostly reasonable voters can easily see right through that.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

@gondwanalon I don’t see Harris as a far lefty. I see her as a stand-in for the same people who were running things behind the scenes for Biden once he lost his mental faculties. The status quo will be life under Harris. That scares me almost as much as Trump. Some conservatives who would normally be on the fence with Trump are not unaware of this.

janbb's avatar

@gondwanalon And Trump is waffling on his positions to garner votes too. That’s what politicians do. “Mostly reasonable voters can easily see right through that.”

Thinking it’s a bit of theater.

After the first attempt, I saw some memes on FB of Jesus holding Trump in his arms, and these lunatics are saying that this is God’s will for him to be saved and move forward. It’s crazy. It’s going to make the lunatics seek retaliation.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@jca2 the assumption is that Jesus’ arms will get tired?

gondwanalon's avatar

We have the choice between a conservative obnoxious old blowhard and a chameleon who is actually to the left of Bernie Sanders.

I’m not voting for either.

I’d love to change the world. I don’t know what to do. I’ll leave it up to you.

You’re right, why bother buying anything that expires in a few weeks? I shall remove eggs, milk, juice & fresh produce from my grocery list immediately and only buy canned, boxed or frozen foods from now on, full of preservatives. Thank you for teaching me the error of my ways.~

2 months ago you people were more than willing to vote for a guy with severe dementia.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

The same people who call out right-wing conspiracies are calling Trump assassination attempts conspiracies. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I’m with @canidmajor on this .

JLeslie's avatar

What just came into my mind was does this attempt put Biden, Harris, and Walz more at risk? Trump too, but I’m naming the others because the focus is on Trump. I think there could be copycats targeting the current administration.

When there was an attempt when Obama was president the political violence environment was different.

jca2's avatar

@cheebdragon not me. I was posting on here that i thought Biden was too old and couldn’t put two sentences together (even before the debate) and many Jellies were saying that it was an inaccurate assessment of him and he’s sharp as a tack, and stronger than ever. It was only after the calls for him to back out of the race got louder that Jellies stopped telling me i was wrong.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@cheebdragon now look at how many Frightwingers are ready to vote for a guy with obvious dementia, strange huh?

Blackwater_Park's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 I don’t think it’s dementia. Trump has always acted like he does. That said, I’m not comfortable with putting geriatric patients in the Oval Office.

mazingerz88's avatar

Depends. On how much of an idiot the American voter is. More idiotic, more likely to vote Trump.

SergeantQueen's avatar

It really shouldn’t.

Think what you will of Trump, not a fan either. But damn, I don’t want him assassinated. At the end of the day he is still a father and husband, a person. Would say the same for any candidate, it is not political to not want someone to die. Just human decency.

But policies and all that nonsense is what should dictate who you vote for, not violent attacks.

janbb's avatar

He’s blaming the Dems for incendiary language and inciting violence,

mazingerz88's avatar

^^Absolutely a non-surprise. This psychopath and sociopath is unable to stop himself from being…himself.

And it will never happen but in a fantasy scenario where his voters declare they are dumping him, the more he will wreak havoc. This pig is nuts. Apologies to actual pigs.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

To be fair, the left have not exactly acted like saints when it comes to Trump. Not anywhere, not even on Fluther.

cheebdragon's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 Think you can recognize the signs and symptoms of dementia now? That’s hilarious.

Forever_Free's avatar

It moved the chances of me voting for him from zero to negative 100

mazingerz88's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 I don’t think trump has dementia. Though a person with dementia would probably do better as US President compared to a sociopathic douchebag.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Well it would explain a lot if he did, Biden gaffes, or slurrs and the media is all over it left or right media, Trump slurs ,says gaffe after gaffe, makes up shit that immigrants are eating pets and the media just goes that’s just Trump.

MrGrimm888's avatar

This guy, AND Crooks, both researched both candidates and parties.
They were likely going to do something bad at some point. Something in recent news, triggered these two losers.
But. It could have been in a school, or concert, or movie theater.
These are the times, we live in.

Dutchess_III's avatar

If this is true it’s pretty obvious that he’s in further mental decline:
“From the “I can’t believe he said that “ files … At a town hall with supporters, TrVmP suggested his tariffs would bring “so many auto plants” to Michigan. At one point he confused Bagram Air Base, in Afghanistan, with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

He also suggested he would restore a state and local tax break that largely benefits residents of blue states — despite signing a law in 2017 that limited it.

Who’s the confused old man now?

mazingerz88's avatar

^^I really think Trump’s cognitive and memory issues are more about his extreme arrogance and total lack of care whether he is held accountable or not for anything he says.

He does not need to care about sounding like a fool that he is. And why should he? After all the hateful, ridiculous and crazy things he said…he is still the Republican nominee for President! Lol

He was absolutely correct when he said he can shoot someone on the street and his supporters wouldn’t give a shit. Or something like that.

He does show up. He brings his what he believes amazingly beautiful hair, face and body so his worshipers can gaze at him. They don’t need accuracy in details, they just need to feel their own frustrations and anger reflected and amplified through his mouth.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Trump is an old lard ass, with reduced cognitive issues.

Oh Melania has her money all locked-up, so he can’t get to it.

jonsblond's avatar

I will never understand how anyone could vote for that vile human being.

@jonsblond Seems trump’s vileness is the very reason why he got to where he’s at. If that’s the case, makes sense calling his supporters deplorables. Vileness is deplorable. Admiration of it is deplorable.
