Tupperware on the way out? Say it ain’t so!

Asked by canidmajor (21498points) 5 hours ago

Tupperware has filed Chapter Eleven after about a zillion years of quality production. https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/tupperware-brands-files-chapter-11-bankruptcy-2024-09-18/
It promoted earning opportunities for women who really didn’t have other ways to create a nest-egg, it gave us some outstanding products (I am still using some that are a half-century old) and it pretty much created the culture of modern food storage.

Do you still, or have you ever, had a collection of Tupperware stuff?

I still have a few pieces that I love. I hate to see it go. It’s the end of yet another era product that holds lots of memories.

They wont go completely. You would still be able to purchase online. Just no more Tupperware parties.

Yup. Very sad. Still have some. Their snack boxes and sippy cups were a godsend.

I was just thinking that Tupperare gave mothers the illusion that they were organized and had it all under control!

@janbb am still laboring under that Great Tupperware Misconception! I remember some Tupperware parties in the 70s, wit…er… interesting brownies for snacks, and we would play games guessing what the weird plastic things were. :-)

This is so sad! I don’t have any, but I can remember the ones in the house I grew up in.

I’ve got pieces from my mom, late 1950s.

I don’t use Tupperware. I use left over plastic containers that many foods come in.
The less that plastic is in demand the better.

You can get adequate cheap alternatives on amazon.
They have always been plastic tat, and now they are no longer competitive.
Plus I would wager the type of people who would go on “tupperware parties” to get bullied into buying it, have literally all died out by now.
