Do you ever get rid of something and immediately realize you had a use for it?

I am – very slowly – trying to clear my house out a bit. This morning I put a large cooler out for bulk trash since I won’t be hosting big family picnics any more. When I went down in the basement, I remembered that I also use it when the power goes out for frozen goods or for when I am clearing out the freezer. Oops!

My boss tried to clear out an equipment closet where we used to stash stuff, and threw out a piece of equipment (a patch panel), and we literally needed it a week later. Very expensive to replace.
My first thought was – my ex-spouse.
You heard me this morning, “I could use that jar” . . . was in recycle bin and truck went by five minutes before.
Just now. A piece of junk mail. From a casino. They had the schedule for prime rib nights, and short ribs.
Thanks for the idea, I fished out of the trash pile.
Once in a while yes, and sometimes it gets me angry enough I immediately replace it.
Gosh yes! I’ll save something for years that would be perfect for a specific use. Then I’ll be moving to another place, city, or state and throw it out. Seems like just days or weeks later I’ll need it!
ALL the time.
I’m probably “on the spectrum” of a “hoarder.”
If I run across something I really like, I usually buy another one, in case I lose the first.
This time of year, it’s a fantasy football thing.
Every time I drop a player, they have a career day the next week.
Never. I’ll admit I haven’t gotten rid of a lot of useful stuff that I probably could, but the things I have gotten rid of, I haven’t needed later.
Murphys Law.
You’ll have something for years or months. Donate it. And you’ll need it next week. :P
This is one reason why it’s hard for me to get rid of stuff. Not only might I need it again, but the replacement cost will be probably three times what I paid for the discarded/donated one.
^Definitely. Or, they may not make the thing anymore, or it’s not as good now.
I have several knives that I love. I have backups, still in boxes JIC.
I found a site with an amazing deal on Spyderco knives, and I went a bit overboard.
Ebay. Those bastards, always have stuff I want because I used to have it. Every time whatever I buy comes in the mail, it’s like I found something I lost forever ago. It’s a good feeling.
Yes. If I keep it odds are low I’ll need it. If I say to myself “I can safely get this out of my way” I’ll inevitably end up needing it.
