How will you remember the late Dame Maggie Smith?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37747points) 2 months ago

Dame Maggie Smith died today aged 89.

I wasn’t a Downton Abbey fan, but I saw all the Harry Potter films and loved them.

She had a career on the stage that spanned 70 years. She was a highly regarded Shakespearean actor.

How will you remember her?

With reverence and fondness. She had an enormous impact on me as Miss Jean Brodie in 1969, and I followed her career thereafter and she never failed to impress, delight, and move me. I need to find my Tea With Mussolini dvd for a tribute rewatch.

I’m not a Downton Abbey fan, but I’ve loved her in other things, especially Harry Potter. “She starred in all eight Harry Potter movies as Professor McGonagall, a role she continued to play even while undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer in 2007.”

Of course the Harry Potter movies. She was also wonderful in Murder By Death, Sister Act, Room With A View, and California Suite.
She could handle comedy effortlessly, yet was quite brilliant in dramatic roles.
