What properties must something have in order to be considered to be living>?

Asked by LostInParadise (32246points) October 4th, 2024

Is there some simple property that an extraterrestrial entity would need to possess in order to be considered to be alive?

Consider the following thing. It has a component A that develops multiple components of type B. These B components are released and each eventually develops into a single A component. Would this item considered to be alive? If not, what more would be required?

I have seen video where somebody was interviewing an AI Chatbot. It claimed to have life, but it doesn’t have a body, unless you want to call wires and resistors and capacitors a body.
