Guitar players: Is there an IOS program you use to make tablature?

Asked by Caravanfan (13876points) 2 months ago

I play the banjo, but guitar tab making programs can be modified. I’m looking for a tab making program for my ipad. I generally don’t play with tab, but I have a friend who is trying to learn songs, and I’d like to tab them out for him to make it easy.

Guitar Tabs X
Finale also can but has closed shop
Dorico is equivalent and does both notation and tablature.

@Caravanfan, you should also check out “Flat.io” I like their tab maker. It will automatically write a tab from the standard notation, or vice versa. You can tab any stringed instrument, including the viol (bowed) family, standard tuning or custom tuning. You can also use custom fingering (e. g., playing G3 on the 3rd string instead of on the 2nd, etc.

DM me if you’d like to look at some of my work.

I use an android phone, and a chromebook, and have no problems. It’s available as a native app for iOS devices as well

@Dutchess_III we are speaking of Tabs. A method of mapping out what your finger structure should look like on the neck of the guitar. Some think it’s easier than reading notes and learning where those notes can be found on the neck.

@Dutchess_III Right. It’s like notes, but instead of playing a “B” you’re playing the second string at the 4th fret or whatever.

It is a map of “where to put your fingers on the strings” . . . that was the way it was explained to me about 65 years ago.

Tabs (short for tablatures) were use a far back as the baroque period (1600–1750) for the lute and mandol (mandolin) families of instruments
