What would you wear to a political rally?

Asked by jonsblond (44203points) 1 month ago from iPhone

Serious question but jokes are welcome.

I was invited to the Obama/Walz rally in Madison, WI this coming Tuesday. Do you know if they give out T-shirts at political rallies?

An RSVP is required but not a guarantee for entry due to capacity limits. How early should I arrive before entry to guarantee I can get in? I only live a few blocks from the site so I can walk, which helps tremendously.

I feel like I’m going on my first date. Can you help guide me for my first political rally?

I would purchase a candidate t-shirt, to wear with slacks. If it’s cold so a jacket covers the shirt, no need to buy one.

I would wear a blue t shirt. They will likely have signs. I don’t know if they will be free or whether they will ask for a donation.

I’m jealous. I would love to go.

^Yeah. The blue shirt would suffice. Unless their merchandise sales, go to the candidates…

I would check the weather and dress comfortably if it is outside. You might be waiting a long time out in the elements.

If it’s inside then I like the idea of wearing blue. If you don’t have blue you could wear white. I guess just avoid red. I wouldn’t spend money on something new unless you will get use out of the shirt otherwise.

You could stop by your local Harris office and see if you can get a political pin or sticker to wear. They might be free or very cheap.

Red MAGA hat.

One of those inflatable t-rex costumes, and a “vote reptiloid” sign, that has a photoshopped image of Harris as a lizard hybrid. On the back of the sign it would say “against the evil robot” and a picture of the Orangutan with exposed metal parts under his face.

I’d want to wear a jacket if there’s any chance of being cold. That would cover up a tee shirt or sweat shirt so it wouldn’t matter what I was wearing underneath. I’d worry more about being cold (or being hot, in the summer) than a shirt, since you will probably be one in hundreds of people.

It’s exciting that you’re getting to go!

I love the idea of a blue shirt. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. I have the perfect one too. Over the summer I was given two flag pins at a baseball game. One is the US flag and the other is the Wisconsin state flag. I can wear those!

I’m pretty sure the venue will be outdoors and the forecast is calling for a high of 72°F with partly sunny skies. It should be beautiful. They won’t give out the exact location until 12–24 hours before the event

If the sun is going to set while you’re there, just be aware that temps will drop and it might get chilly (coming from a person who tends to get cold easily).

A red MAGA hat that says Make America Gay Again.

Is that going to offend any Dems?

Adjustable layers. With an emergency plastic blanket stored in a pocket. Just in case it rains.

How about a MABA hat? Make America British Again.

Comfortable shoes . . .

jonsblond's avatar

@mazingerz88 I don’t think so. I’ve seen those exact hats advertised on LGBTQ+ pages I follow.

@Hawaii_Jake I can add a plus one. No one in my circle can make it. Hop on a plane and join me!

Team Colors like any good sporting event.

I just received the email with instructions and exact location. Suggested attire is casual and comfortable. University of Wisconsin and campaign merch are especially encouraged. Interesting because UW colors are cardinal and white. I do have a gray UW Badger shirt with Bucky Badger. I’ll probably wear that.

How’d it go? My best buddy was there with his UW sophomore daughter, but I have not had a report.

It was a bucket list moment for me. I arrived early and got a great seat. I met a few people I’ll never forget and wish i would have gotten a contact number for one. I was surrounded by 8k hopeful and enthusiastic like minded individuals.

My favorite speech of the night was from a surprise guest. Actor Bradley Whitford. He’s a Madison native and graduated from the same high school my youngest son attended. Bradley’s speech was the most passionate, in my opinion. I recorded all twenty minutes.
