Do you have a nickname?

Asked by kruger_d (6504points) 1 day ago

I don’t.
Can it be socially awkward? Are there people who feel too familiar when they use your nickname, like a coworker or maybe someone you just don’t like? Have you ever had to ask someone not to use a nickname? I live in a small town and it seems like almost everyone who was born here has one. It was made it really hard to learn names when I moved here. Many are funny and some are crude. Someone once tried to set me up with Pignuts.

Yes, since I was a kid. My parents gave me a long ‘distinguished’ first name, but the only people who ever called me that were my parents.

Everyone else for the last 65 years (who is a friend) calls me my nickname.

I do. It is common nickname for my Christian name.

“Little Brother”. Only a few of my canoe paddling buddies call me that. It’s OK with me. So I named my canoe, “Kaikaina” (Hawaiian for little sibling).

Many over the years.
Dash as a young kid through HS sporting years.
Sweet Buns was bestowed upon me by a Secretary I had back in my 20’s
Calvie was one that a GF gave me because of the name on the waistband of my boxer briefs.

Sometimes people call me Jewels which is a play on my real name.

My husband calls me “Lor.”

I guess Lori has too many letters and syllables to remember.
