Also the opposite? Common items that have become luxuries, do to shortages and price increases?

Technology in general. Look at how cheap a functional, general purpose computer is today compared to a personal computer 40 years ago. TV’s are dirt cheap now. Adjusted for inflation the price drop is dramatic.

Common items that are luxuries now: For people starting out today it’s housing, transportation and healthy, unprocessed food.

Great life we left our kids.

Imported fresh produce. Mom’s used to talk about how they would get an orange in the toe of their Christmas stockings and what a treat that was.

Mechanical wrist watches were common and are now a luxury.

On the other hand digital wrist watches were a luxury when they first came out. For the price of a Hamilton Pulsar (one of the first if not the first) you could pick up about 10 Rolex Submariners
