Do you enjoy your vacation more after it’s over?

Asked by JLeslie (65743points) 3 weeks ago from iPhone

Do you look back and realize all of the fun and new things you saw and did while remembering the trip more than when you are in the moment?

This happens to me sometimes, it happened on my recent trip to Colorado. I liked it while there, but appreciate it even more looking back on it.

I think it’s partly because I was responsible for a lot of the planning. I always am the planner when my husband and I are traveling. Also, my husband was just getting over covid, so we were beyond normal careful since we had a wedding to go to, which was tiresome.

Sometimes I’m very in the moment, sometimes not.

What’s your experience?

I hope you enjoyed Broomfield and the weather was good. I lived there for four years and liked it a lot.

^^The weather was fantastic. Very dry though, a little too dry for me, but overall great. Drank a ton of water, but the temps were amazing and no rain.

We loved Broomfield and Louisville. Great location and had everything one would need, I can understand why you enjoyed it.

I can remember parts of a vacation, when I was 5 at Yosemite. That is over 70 years ago. Getting kicked in the shin by a doe that wanted my marshmallow, the bear up the tree in front of the main entrance of the Lodge building and my grandfather asking me what time it was while in front the alarm clock; I answered “five after six” which was the time.

No, I often feel nostalgic when looking at vacation pictures, which is a sad feeling.

I used to need a vacation from my vacation.

Now I try to just sleep and eat, maybe shop.

My best sleeps are from after check out when I will stay an extra day, or early check-in,
from 10am – 4pm.

A big part of nostalgia, is not remembering the bad parts of something.
One may miss their previous place of vacation, compared to their return to more regular times.

I enjoy both aspects (except the super-tedious or uncomfortable parts), but in general I enjoy more being on vacation, than remembering them . . . unless you factor in that the memories last far longer.

I do enjoy the memories of it although it’s probably not immediately after. As much as I love going away, I always like coming home again. But I also like the anticipation just as much. In fact I always say that my favorite time of the week is Friday night because you have the whole potential of the weekend before you.
