Is it OK to eat spam sandwiches every day?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24986points) 1 month ago

I bought some 25% reduced sodium Spam containers. Is it OK to eat half a can every day for lunch? With a warm hot dog bun, and maybe a small amount of mayonnaise?

It’s difficult to say whether it’s ok or not. OK is relative. I suggest eating less than half a can for each meal. Try cutting it down to just a quarter of a can.

I used to eat Spam before I stopped eating meat. It’s well liked here. We ate it with rice.

Is it going to kill you? No. Is it healthy for you? No.

@elbanditoroso and @Hawaii_Jake Ok Thanks. I will reduce my Spam by half. Also I will reconsider my meal and snack plans.

It’s processed pig parts with tons of sodium added – 32% per 2 ounce serving size, and 15 gms of fat in 2 ounces. I’ve never had it.

@smudges Ok Thanks. I will reduce my Spam intake. I will save for special occasions. Like to substitute for pizza , when I’m out of food.

I would recommend avoiding Spam and other processed meat products altogether, as they are very unhealthy.

Personally I have to avoid foods like Spam because I can’t tolerate much sodium nitrate. For you, I’d advise going easy on it. I wouldn’t say no because it’s a low cost source of protein. Everyone should eat a balanced diet, even if it has preservatives etc.

Lots of things advertise themselves as 25% or 50% less sodium. But they still have a frightening amount of salt in them. Also, sometime check the amount of salt on your hot dog bun. You would be appalled at how much sodium is in a hot dog bun.
