Healthy or not?

I’m rethinking my food plan, and would like tips.

Tomorrow I might order some blueberries, and make a small batch of Bisquick, extra blueberry scones.

For me, it all depends. Sometimes I like a piece of fruit. Apple, orange, banana.

Sometimes something salty, like cheese and crackers or popcorn (Skinny Pop is good – not too salty, not greasy).

If I’m in the car and I’m hungry, it’s anything goes, whatever I have on hand.

All kinds of nuts. Chips. Apples and bananas. I love to eat an apple or banana with peanut butter.

Are Harvest Summer Sausages just as bad as Spam?

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

I don’t think so. I’m not really sure.

When thinking of healthy food, I believe fruit and vegetables are best with a little meat.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t snack.

Summer sausage = bad. Actually, worse than Spam. Any time you see white coloration in meat – that’s fat. There’s a lot in summer sausage, salami, any kind of sausage. Plus it’s processed, which is bad. I did a quick look-up and there’s 1,090 mg of sodium/serving – that’s 47% of your daily allowance of sodium. I allow myself some of those types of meats about once every 2–3 years. Also, meats like braunsweiger(sp?), liverwurst, bologna are processed.

@smudges D’oh I just bought two Summer Sausages. Can they keep in the freezer?

I don’t know if they can or if so, for how long. Sounds like a research project for you. ;)

There aren’t many snacks I can have because I have to watch my carbs, unless I just do straight vegetables. But I can occasionally have a snack if I’ve gone late on my carbs for a meal. And then the best snack is a piece of fruit, although I do like a few Lifesavers sometimes, particularly the orange flavor which if you’ve never had is really good. Not the orange colored one that comes with the five flavored tube, but some sort of variety that comes in a separate bag by itself.

^^but they’re not Werther’s. I know what those are and I like them, but these are definitely Lifesavers. I’ve never seen them in the tube, but they come in bags and they’re not really easy to find. I do know that Amazon sells them. But I usually get them at my local grocery store.

Life Savers come in two orange colored candies; tangerine and orange.

^^actually, I looked at the bag today when I was more awake, and the bag says that they’re mints but they’re orange flavored. So there are other orange Lifesavers than what you’re talking about. Although they don’t seem very minty to me.

Making extra blueberry bisquick scones now. Should be ready in 15 minutes or so.

Update finished making scones. Were delicious. Will eat them all tonght. Will make again in the future.

I’m cooking maple breakfast sausages on a cast iron skillet.
I’m trying to eat more, and more often. I don’t want to screw up my blood sugar levels again. Last time I did I had to call an ambulance on myself because I live alone now. Doc said it was good call.

I am making a second batch, of blueberry scones. This time with egg nog instead of milk. Will update how it turned out.

^^^^ Sounds yummy !

Update Finished. Ended up being 8 soft cookie/scone hybrid.

Tasted ok. I don’t recommend using egg nog.

Saved $25— $35 by not ordering from a bakery.

If I have a “snack” I crunch on salted sunflower seeds in the shell.
