Why does milk go so well with chocolate cake?

Asked by janbb (63257points) 1 month ago from iPhone

I never drink it any other way but it is perfect with chocolate cake. Tell me why.

Milk helps lubricate the palate.

Why aren’t you sharing your cake with me?

canidmajor's avatar

Because it quiets it down a bit. Straight chocolate cake is pretty heady stuff, the milk tempers it.

Cleans the palate so the next bite seems like the very first yummmy bite. I love the coldness of milk with many foods.

I agree with @canidmajor. Chocolate is very sweet and milk kind of cuts the sweetness.

So, I’m the odd man out here. I drink diet Pepsi with my cake.

Because milk goes well with cake, and with chocolate?

I still think milk is gross, but chocolate milk is ok. Must be a similar effect. I have coffee with my chocolate cake.

Mmm, that’s what I had for supper two nights ago. My son baked some rich chocolate cupcakes. I prefer them unfrosted. Milk glass in the freezer first, then filled and back into the freezer for a few more minutes. I had four cupcakes with ice-cold milk. Perfection!

There are some things in this world that I just don’t question.
