Computer nerds: how often do you update your BIOS with newly released firmware?
My ASUS motherboard is now running BIOS version 3401 (from last June). The ASUS support website shows that version 3601 (dated 11/½4) is now available.
How essential is it to updated with latest BIOS? Can I ignore this for a while?
(Updating BIOS is always a bit risky – you need to get into BIOS setup, make sure you don’t touch anything you shouldn’t, do the upload, and hope for the best)

I do not, unless there is a problem. And I believe that is the general advice. Leave it alone, unless you have to update.
Same, unless there is a blatant, catastrophic issue, don’t do it. The one exception is when it’s brand new and the return window is still open. I always do it then.
Only when I have a strong reason to, such as, something is not working.
Which means, almost never.
If I even know there is a BIOS update available, I will read up on it and see if it seems to be relevant to me, looks like it has a desirable change, and if people seem to have tried it and found it to be stable and not cause problems or changes that I don’t want. Only if it satisfies those conditions, would I update.
I don’t have fear of going into BIOS settings, nor much fear of doing it wrong. But I DO have fear of it possibly being irreversible, and causing problems.
It’s been at least 14 years since I may have considered updating a CPU BIOS on a computer.
