Sometimes I bite the inside of my cheek when I eat. It’s very painful, a sharp pain, and it’s annoying.
I asked my dentist the last time I was there and he said just try not to eat chewy things for a day or two.
It happened today when I was eating salad. It happened out of the blue. It happened the other day on the other side, and it bled a little, just a drop or two. I put a napkin in my mouth and I saw the blood. The blood wasn’t dripping out of my mouth.
My teeth are perfect – I had braces as a teen, and I don’t have any overbite, underbite, teeth are all straight and no spaces in between, etc.
Does this happen to you or anyone you know, and if so, do you have a remedy or a preventive measure?

Well, I’ve been biting the inside behind my lip on the left over and over for a few days. Once bitten, it swells, and then I’m more likely to bite it again. It’s occasionally happened in spots like that, or my cheeks, sometimes, but not very often.
What I do, that helps, and eventually works for me, is to just pay as much careful attention as I can when I bite. I can avoid it if I’m careful and attentive – I only bite it during lapses in attention. I try to maintain my awareness of the spot by touching base with it with my tongue throughout the day, so I am more likely to remember.
You might try swishing warm salt water in your mouth for 1 minute. It’s good for healing owies in your mouth and better than mouthwash in general, but I don’t remember why. It should heal pretty fast as opposed to not using it.
I don’t bite the inside of my cheek very often, but I noticed that when I do, I’m more likely to do the same thing in the same spot sometime later that day. It really does hurt and especially if you do it more than once.
Ask your dentist. In the meantime, chew on ice
I feel ya, Update Lady.
I’ve bitten every part of my mouth over the years. It seems like it started when I was in my 50’s.
I actually keep a box of gauze in my eating area.
When it happens, I channel my annoyance into pressing the gauze hard on the bitten part.
After I’ve bitten my inside cheek and applied the gauze, I forcefully puff out my cheeks to expand them away from my misguided teeth. I then resume chewing, and try to gradually expand my cheeks simultaneously.
My most annoying mishap is biting my tongue.
