Are Republicans getting paranoid already?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) 1 month ago

I have a neighbor across the street is a republican. We get along….have never discussed politics. Over the last couple years we pretty much sussed it out tho.
Today there have been many memes expressing shock and dispare.
My neighbor posted “I stand behind my vote! If anyone doesn’t like it they can unfriend me!!”
How would anyone know who she voted for unless she went about telling them?
PS yesterday she posted a selfie with her uber redneck husband, with the comment “We got our job done!”
I commented “We’ll done!!”

I have FB friends who will post their opinion and say if anybody doesn’t like it, they can unfriend them. I ignore it. I ignore most of what is on social media. I might “like” it if I’m not opposed to it, but otherwise I ignore it.

Sounds like exactly the type of stuff I avoid such social media for, in the first place…

They prayed to Jesus and Jesus delivered unto them.

^To me, Trump winning is proof positive there is no heaven, or God.

Don’t forget free will @MrGrimm888! That catchall they use to “explain” anything they can’t.

I appreciate these posts.
I unfriend them.

I don’t think they are getting paranoid; I’m worried they will get vengeance with their Dem neighbors and Trump with the European countries.

@MrGrimm888 Nah, I see it as proof that we are in hell. So, I’m still holding out for heaven. But now I plan to move to Costa Rica. It may take a few months but I’m leaving unless Dumbo catches a heart attack.

I just saw a similar post on my facebook.

Also this: Wellllll… the people have spoken. Overwhelming, landslide victory for President Donald J Trump. Now, let’s stop insulting each other, let’s be civilized, and let’s try not to burn down cities. God Bless America.

I “unfollow” friends and relatives on FB that go deep into politics. I get them from both sides. It just makes their B.S. not show up in my feed.

I have had at least 3 of my fb “friends” unfriend me because they disliked that I challenged them about their far left posts. I was always curious and never vulgar. I have another very liberal fb friend that is generally very reasonable. Most of the time it’s easy for me to match whits with. And I enjoy trying to justify my thinking. It forces me to use my brain. I like him. So far as I know he hasn’t unfriended me yet. HA!

I’ve unfriended obvious scammers on fb and never because I disagree politically.

@Blackwater_Park how do we teach them how to know more than just what they know?
That argument works for “He’s only 2!” Not for adults
They should already.know better. Why don’t they?

@Dutchess_III Your neighbor sounds like she’d be difficult to live with. I’d not care for it either, regardless of her politics.

jonsblond's avatar

@Blackwater I don’t care. You aren’t witness to the pain I see. Suicide hotlines are needed. Hate against the trans community is rampant today.

Your neighbours make it sound like they have buried a body where no one will ever find it.

@jonsblond Trump had ~73 million votes. There are perhaps 170 million eligible voters in the USA. It’s no small number. You are not witness to those 73 million people either. They have their reasons for voting the way they do and their primary issues are just different than yours. That does not make them garbage.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

@Dutchess_III “how do we teach them how to know more than just what they know?”

I think you need to drop the assumption that we know better than they do.

MrGrimm888's avatar

I’m VERY disappointed, in the half that voted for Trump…
They aren’t garbage. I agree.
They definitely think differently, than me.
They are also the same people, who are often religious, and likely have little to no education.

It is not the purpose of this or any country, to please me. I understand that.
I don’t vote, so I don’t even have maybe a small chance at stopping some things.
But. I will not endorse, these career politicians, or wealthy businessmen, because that would be double wrong.
Voting, in general, is not just a me thing.(I can’t actually find exactly how many eligible voters, didn’t vote this time despite great effort.)
But, I’m sure I wasn’t the only one, who didn’t want to vote, for whatever reason.

WOMEN. IF someone wants to asign blame to some slice of voters, I think women (obviously) voted “against their interests” AGAIN!
“Handmaiden’s Tale” much?

What the ever loving fuck, were women voting FOR Trump, and I don’t understand that women didn’t EASILY give Harris the victory.

The people who were “informed voters,” and voted FOR Trump, certainly gave their personal approval of wanting Trump to not just be president, but newly appointed King.
Even if say abortion is one’s 1 issue for voting, they ALSO approved a LOT of harmful/expensive future agendas.

I do not believe I “know better than them.” I know that we are clearly NOT countrymen. We are NOT, in it together.
And a lot of things (good/bad) could happen not only to their own interests, but all of ours now, because of this reflection of American society.
That’s what it is.
Trump empowered the bigots, and the bigots empowered Trump.
There are LOTS of “special” people who voted (on both sides,) for ridiculous reasons.
I can excuse them…
I won’t excuse the rest.
Sure. One could again point out that I do not vote. But. I have not advocated for the negative probabilities that are to come.

I have NEVER, been more ashamed of “my” country.
I WOULD leave, but currently, my destiny is intertwined with stupid American politics. Largely due to current medical issues.
That’s another thing.
I know at least another jelly, who has already said it, and I’m in the same boat. We have “preexisting” (medical) conditions. Conditions that already made life REALLY harsh.
We have been told, by the “fine people,” that voted for Trump, they favor people like us being lost. Dead, I guess.
Pardon me, for not empathizing with their “needs,” that Trump will certainly address…

I likely would have voted, if there were no Electoral College. I KNOW, that stopped some people from going to the polls.

We can still live together, and work together. But. It will be an interesting future.
We’ll see, if Trump carries out, the most radical parts of his publicly stated agenda.
We’ll see, how that goes.
The world, will be holding its breath, for the next 4 years.
The rest of us, will try and do the same.

There was a lot of “weather you like it, or not” in Trump’s recent rhetoric…

^^ So you’re the one who kept Harris from being elected!~

@Blackwater They are misinformed and ignorant. They are voting against themselves. Their vote is for selfish reasons. The left vote for others, not for themselves.

LifeQuestioner's avatar

I just found out this morning that some of our polling places in my state had bomb threats after the election. I don’t know which particular ones so don’t ask. They seem to think it came from Russia, but it seems like even now a certain political party is determined to stop the counting of votes.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

@jonsblond No they’re not. They’re informed about the issues that they care about, and that affect them. The left vote for the same reasons. They vote for the issues they care about, and that affect them. They don’t vote against themselves. Neither side does but both sides act selfishly in this way. This election was decided by the sorry state of the economy and if it does not improve or at least stabilize, I don’t have to tell you what party will get another chance in 2028. When people cannot afford housing and groceries, all the other issues are on the sidelines.
