We can be glad that we don’t have to listen to Trump and his followers whine for the next 4 years about how unfairly they were treated, like never seen before in all of history.
We can be glad that we don’t have to bite our nails every time a crisis boils over, wondering if Harris is going to be able to handle it. (Of course we’ll wonder how he’ll handle it—with bombs?—but that’s different.)
What might you add—just by way of giving this electoral disaster the Pollyanna treatment?~
Oh, yeah—we can be glad that Trump doesn’t have a twin brother to rule with him.

We don’t have to worry about being taken seriously, on the world stage…
At least we don’t have to worry about decency, honesty, fairness, and legality hampering the President.

I think it’s a bit early for this kind of question. I’m still struggling with this.
We’ll have secure boarders again.
The Trump tax cuts will remain.
The stock market will likely l remain strong.
Consumers will pay 10% to 18% more for everything imported ! Inflation will run rampant !
The “sable genius” will not understand why that happens . . . he may kill some of his advisors !
The world won’t have long to wait before he just gives Ukraine to Putin.
At least he’ll get government 2.0
Not sure if that will make him more thoughtfull or more dangerous.
I hear some are saying we may never have to vote again.
With Kamala’s loss, at least…..
We can all breathe a sigh of relief.
She had the good grace to accept the result of the electoral process and not encourage violence and civil war.
@seawulf575 You’re right of course hate filled violent rhetoric is much better than that dreadful laugh, amazing how a convicted felon won.
We don’t have to hear Republicans insisting the election was stolen and saying :she’s NOT my president.”
I’m hoping for a massive exodus from the Democratic Party to something new that focuses on economic populism. I think that could be really incredible for the country’s future as well as the planet.
at least one of the two Republican campaigns lost.
No, @Jeruba, I would not have been “biting my nails”, I would not have voted for her had I not thought she could handle it.
At least now I should be able to convince my non-binary child and their black partner to take extra security measures and get that extra “fire damage” rider on the house insurance.
At least now I should be able to convince a beloved nephew whose grandparents were Cuban, whose skin, hair and eyes are dark, whose name ends in “ez”, to make copies of and update all pertinent identity documents, and carry them everywhere against predictable harrassments and challenges.
At least now I should be able to convince my pre-menopausal women friends and family members to stock up on drugs than will be outlawed soon, and to buy books of herbal healing with cash, not traceable cards.
And so on, and so on.
But how nice that @seawulf575 can breathe a sigh of relief that maybe the TV writers might be intimidated enough to stop making white male actors in sit-coms look a bit silly.
At least the transgender community is getting information about suicide hotlines and where to go to seek asylum.
My first thought was more or less what @jca2 wrote… we don’t have to hear Trump and Trumpers saying the election was stolen.
We won’t have as much immigration at the border and won’t have to hear Republicans complaining about it.
I’m in a hope for the best prepare for the worst mode. The best regarding Trump is hoping he won’t go along with the very extreme religious right in the country and take us even farther backwards regarding health, environment, and separation of church and state. Hoping he stops playing to them as much as he has now that this is his last term. We won’t have to hear all of those constant dog whistles and talking points. Unless of course he tries to change the constitution to keep himself in office past a second term.
@hat What, you mean trotting out the Cheneys didn’t clinch it? ;)
At least some states voted to protect their pro-LGBT laws. California voted against same-sex marriage 16 years ago when I was in high school. Now they voted to enshrine it in their state constitution by over 60%. Some things do change for the better.
With Kamala’s loss, at least…the Democrats may finally realize that they can’t win by coddling up to establishment neoliberals and neoconservatives and that they have get a slate of more populist progressive left candidates. (And I write this as an establishment neoliberal and a former neoconservative who does not consider myself progressive left).
At least I did the right thing.
At least now I can move to a better and warmer Nation, now that my daughter and son-in-law agree to go with us. Hopefully democracy continues there till be die. I can’t be polyanna about this because Trump will control all 3 branches. He already owns the Judicial and part of the legislative branches and it looks like republicans will control it all. So there will be no checks and balance on anything. Trump will become a tyrant. He has promised that he will use the justice department to go after people. He will do it. And there will be no one to stop him. Not one soul. Dems could try but then they will be targetted. They will be silenced. The media will be silenced. Democracy will be dead.
We still have poetry……
We had fed the heart on fantasies,
The heart’s grown brutal from the fare,
More substance in our enmities
Than in our love;
WB Yeats From ‘Meditations in Time of Civil War’ (1928).
No twin brother, but apparently Elon Musk is looking to become the shadow president.
And at least I won’t have to put up with his s*** for very long because as soon as he cancels the ACA, and I lose my health insurance, I’m not going to last more than a month or two.
At least there will not be another round of insurrectionsists storming the capitol, because they do not need to.
At least now we’re seeing total incompetents being put in office, like dog killer Kristi Nome for Homeland Security and a Fox news anchor for Department of Defense.
^It will be funny when Trump inevitably has a falling out with all these people, and they come out with “tell-all” books about their 90 days in the administration.
@jca2 the latest, if you haven’t heard, is that Matt Gaetz is going to be the attorney general. What a joke!
@jca2 @LifeQuestioner that way he won’t be brought. up on charges for having sex with an underage female at a beer party ? ?
@Tropical_Willie I’m hearing that the ethics committee is still releasing the report on Friday. There’s also some Republican senators speaking out against him, although I’m not sure how far that will go.
I’m not getting my panties in a wad, over his appointments.
He’ll likely fire them all. Again…
