What do you think of Alex Jones' "Infowars" being bought by The Onion?

Their stated plan is to turn Infowars into a parody version of itself.

How many followers of Infowars will actually believe that the satire the site will put out, will be genuine?
In the same way that many conservatives believed the parody character thet Stephen Colbert played for many years was actually real.

I’m surprised that The Onion had the $$ to buy it.

The real question is: Will Onion keep to its snarky roots? Hard to guess.

I think it’s awesome. Info wars headlines may as well be Onion headlines.

Oh I saw that and I thought it was a joke.

Did not know about it so no thoughts about it. Now I know and, yep, still no thoughts about that.

The Onion has certainly had its ups and downs in terms of quality. And it definitely is less of a thing than it was in the early days, when there was far less content and they owned the lane. But they are still far better than so-called legitimate, serious corporate media. So, I’m interested to see what happens with the InfoWars acquisition.

Their headlines alone, while satire, map onto reality far better than the NYT, for example. Here are a few examples related to occupied Palestine:

Apparently Jones transferred ownership of his very lucrative Vitamin ans Supplement online store to his father last week without bankrupt court approval I wonder how much of his father’s stuff gets sent to Onion . . . when that is reversed ?

I think I enjoy anything, that pisses Jones off…

I am happy. It was a forced fire sale. The money went to Sandy Hook families.

The Onion saw value in the name InfoWars. I can’t wait till they fire his ass.

^It’d be better, if they kept him. To me….

https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/judge-onion-infowars-hearing-review-auction-1236211183/
The bankruptcy judge overseeing the Chapter 7 liquidation of Infowars and Jones’ assets on Thursday temporarily halted the transfer of Infowars to the Onion and ordered an evidentiary hearing to review the auction — in which bids were submitted secretly. “No one should feel comfortable with the results of this auction,” Judge Christopher Lopez of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas said at an emergency status conference, according to an audio recording of the hearing shared by the court in the docket Friday. The hearing has been set for Nov. 25.

This is interesting!

^^ Just a stall tactic. Closed bidding never lets the other parties have visibility. Judge may be cray cray, but this is how it is done.
Awaiting the hearing.
