TCG players: does the rarity of a card really matter?

Asked by SergeantQueen (13130points) 1 month ago

Does the rarity matter? What about the look of the card (shiny cards, etc)?

When I say “matter”, I mean gameplay wise. I am aware that has more to do with collecting, but is there a gameplay advantage to having more legendaries vs commons?

Googling this just says it matters for collecting, does not mention gameplay.

Not sure if this depends on the game, I personally am referencing Star Wars: Unlimited, but am asking more in general.

No idea. But what is TCG?

All you need is 20 instances of “pot of greed”, which allows you to draw more cards from your deck!

Oh, it’s a pokemon thing. That’s why I had no idea.

It is not just pokemon. I am talking about Card Games in general.

@SergeantQueen I just don’t know what “TCG” stands for. I assume table card games?

Yeah, I neglected to define that didn’t I. Sorry.

Just stands for “Trading Card Game”

Sorry about that

That would depend on the game.

In computer CCGs (card collecting games – often you can’t trade the cards with other players) I’ve seen, typically the rarer cards are also notably more powerful than the common ones.
