Do you send postcards?

Asked by gondwanalon (23208points) 3 hours ago

Just wondering.

One middle aged friend told me that no one sends postcards anymore and added, “They just text or email” when they travel. He told me how special it is to receive post cards from me.

On Thanksgiving day this year (this last Thursday), I bought 10 postcards from a store in downtown Manhattan (NY City) for $1 (no tax). It was like they were just blowing them out to get rid of them.

I send 5 or 6 post cards to family and friends when I travel. Send post cards from distant and weird places like Antarctica, the bottom of the Grand Canyon and not so weird but far off location and other countries.

How about you?
Are you old fashioned like me?

I don’t but people in my family do, when they travel. It’s a nice throwback to when I was little and they were very common. When I was little and I would stay in a hotel with my mom, when we went somewhere on vacation, the hotels would leave a few sheets of stationery and a few postcards on the desk in the room, for guests to send out. The postcards would have a photo of the hotel on them and the stationery would have a drawing of the hotel. Now, you get a little pad of paper with the hotel logo and that’s it.

I do, albeit not on a regular basis. As a former teacher, I’m obviously still on many teacher friend’s list of who to hit up when they have a student who for whatever reason wants a card from all states. Being in Alaska, I guess I’m in a small group. Still, rather fun and Alaska has an ample supply of pretty cool postcards available. I’ve even made a few using my own photos and printer when I don’t have a bought one that seems to fit the criteria requested. Other than that, it’s a random thing, usually when I’m traveling or simply see a card that makes me think of a specific person.
