Are peanuts being insulted?
The expression….‘for peanuts’ is used in various places, often in a derisive or condescending way.
For example – “he works for peanuts” – meaning that he earns very little.
“The budget for ammunition is peanuts when compared to the Defense department budget”
It seems that peanuts are being unfairly maligned. DO we need a Peanuts Defense Organization?

I would ask Jimmy Carter.
The story I heard was a company would pay for advertising in peanuts at a baseball game or football game, I don’t remember. Then the stadium sold the peanuts. That’s why peanuts traditionally were sold in stadiums. Something like that.
A Vaudeville era expression. The Peanut Gallery were the least expensive seats in the top all the way back.

Charles Shultz hated the term that was forced on him and his comic strip by United Features Syndicate.
The Howdy Doody Show show featured an audience of children who were seated in the “Peanut Gallery”, and were referred to as “Peanuts”. This inspired the decided title that was forced upon Schulz, to his consternation.
Schulz hated the title Peanuts, which remained a source of irritation to him throughout his life.

Yes. Yes, peanuts should be insulted. The Peanuts Are Really Fucking Marvelous Association continues to be outraged by the ongoing devaluation of the terrific little legume.
My god, each peanut is a powerhouse of protein! Fiber! Vitamins and minerals! What fabulous little things! So tasty! So versatile!
So yes, peanuts should be insulted, but they probably aren’t. Peanuts are gentle and generous of spirit, so I will be outraged on their behalf.
This was actually the reason, why I didn’t vote.
