How do I find a lawyer who handles consumer fraud cases?

Asked by Jeruba (56093points) 3 days ago

I think I have been scammed, and I’ve never needed a lawyer for this sort of issue. How do I find someone—I mean the actual process?

I don’t know anyone who’s had this kind of legal advice.

If you paid with a credit card you can contact their fraud department.

Or call the economic fraud crime department of your local police station.

Sorry that this is happening to you. I get scam attempts weekly. Once or twice a year I get tricked. Your are not alone.

Sorry to hear that. Your local bar association can put you in touch with a suitable lawyer or you can use the website https://www.avvo.com/. Hope things get sorted out satisfactorily.

I would call your local senior center and ask for referrals.

If it was a scam by a company there are consumer protections sections of just about every state government. You can write them and they might be able to help more.

Call your state bar for a referral.

I messaged my nephew who is a lawyer in the Bay area. He’s in family law so this wouldn’t be his area but if he knows someone, I’ll let you know.

^^ He didn’t know anyone.

https://oag.ca.gov/consumers

This even has a phone number for referrals to attorneys that might specialize in what you want.
