My External Hard Drive Seems to be Dead!
Hello all. I have an external hard drive that is no longer showing up on my computer. When I manage to get it to show up (turning it off and on again seems to work) it reads corrupt. This is a bummer as it hold ALL of my music. Any ideas about how to get the music out of there or is is lost forever? ANY help is appreciated.

Is it making any strange noises?
there are companies that can salvage your data but it costs money. idk how much.
If it’s a hardware problem, then they usually can only salvage bits of text. And it’s usually very expensive.
Did you have an MP3 player, perhaps, that your music is on?
The drive makes no unusual noise and the light on the front is in the standard blue when the drive is on. I do have a player with most of the music on it. Some was not included on the player, but I can manage without it. Are you implying that I might be able to upload from the player to a new drive?
When I click “open” or “explore” it says “The disk is not formatted. Would you like to format it now?”
When I try and scan it for viruses, the scan completes in 5 seconds! Not much to look through I guess.
there are ways to upload music from your mp3 play, but I don’t know how, just that they exist. do a search for uploading from your player on google or something. If you can upload your music, and you don’t mind losing the rest of your data, then try formatting it. you might save it..
What kind of an MP3 player do you have?
See how this works for you.
This is cool. I will try this on my laptop. My desktop is not a mac, so I will have to live with my music only in one spot (other than the iPod. That is WAY better than no where but the iPod. Looks like the Windows version is on the way so it’s just a matter of time. Thanks for the help!
