Does Trump think there is some kind of advantage to alginate his allies nations?

I don’t get it, with tariffs , or take overs , whatever, is there an advantage to why he is doing this?
What if these nations look for other trade partners, like China did with the grain they import from the states.
They went to Brazil, and Russia and bought their grain instead.
