Why was Rick's Facebook account apparently deleted?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47142points) 14 hours ago

He passed in October. I just went to look at his account for the first time…and it’s gone.
Why?

You would have to contact Facebook.

Either someone logged in and deleted, or Facebook deleted it.

They might not tell you since it is not your account. If you explain the circumstances maybe. But it is either deleted by Facebook or someone else.

Unless someone logged in and blocked you. Have you tried signing out and searching for him, or having someone else look him up?

How do I contact Facebook? I’ve looked and don’t see it.
I do have his laptop tho. I’ll try that tomorrow.

Thanks. I went there. It seems to be for trouble shooting for your own account.
I actually joined a group that said it was an admin account. I wasn’t comfortable with it but I asked the question.

I bet I have the best luck trying to log on from his laptop.

Please, take advice from a group with a grain of salt. Do NOT give them any personal info, emails, nothing. Do not give passwords either.

try support@fb.com

Just a heads up, googling this, if you cannot get anything from his laptop, goodluck.

Facebook support apparently really sucks. From what other people are saying

If he is suspended for some reason, seems logging in can trigger the appeal process.

I am guessing that Rick, sometime in the past made the decision to have his FB account be deleted after a specific amount of time after his death. That is one of FB’s options. You can also choose to make it a legacy account where it stays up forever, and the person decides ahead of time if they would like to leave it open for future comments, or for the comments to be turned off.

The other way it could disappear is if someone (maybe his kids?) knew his password and made that decision for him.

No. This is weird AF.
I was able to log in to Rick’s FB on his lap top.
It’s active.
However I am not on his friend’s list.
I did see a group chat that I started with one of our contractors.
My profile showed there so I clicked on it. It said account not found.
What is REALLY weird is I did a facebook search for my name and it says noone by that name is found.
Maybe he managed to block me? But I can’t imagine that
Shit. Now I have to figure out how to figure that out.
It seems like I once saw a “people you have blocked” with the option to unblock them.

Don’t worry Queenie. My spidy senses were firing from the start…and I was right.
Some guy said to PM him and he could help me. I looked at his profile first.
Big nope!! And I left that bogus group.

It’s just weird.

Perplexing. Exhausting

Got it. Apparently I blocked HIM!
Yeah. Weird. But all better now.

I found it just now @Dutchess_III.

You might want to contact FB and make it a legacy account, which I believe you can do by uploading his death certificate to FB. That way, nobody can hack the account.

You can make it a legacy account if you have access to his account through your laptop.

How do I contact FB @jca2?
