Meta Question

How does the site look to you?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37807points) 1 month ago

I’m on mobile, and the site appears absolutely bizarre. There are no graphics at all. It’s literally all words. The questions appear in blue like a link. I’ve never seen this. It’s the weirdest glitch I’ve ever seen here. This is like the internet in the 90s.

What you’re describing, I’ve seen on my laptop in the past, not with Fluther but with other sites. Fluther looks fine to me at present, on the computer and the phone.

No Dr J in lower left corner . . .

No graphics for “general” -“social” – “just for you” – “meta”

OK so far here on desktop.

On my tablet, all is normal.

I have literally never had a problem with this site with the exception of the stuff that is broken for everybody, like the Contact the Mods or search. knock knock

What are ya’ll using for Fluther? I have a Samsung S24 Ultra and I am on Chrome

Just tried to ask a q from desktop and could not.

All appears normal now. That was completely bizarre.

I’ve lost the panel on the right of Dr J at the top of the page now.

Just tried to ask a q again from desktop, Thursday morning EST and I still can’t.

[mod says] Thanks for the reports, everyone. Ben has been notified.

The only bizarre thing I see is that a bunch of avatars got changed to one of a woman with bunny ears.

@RocketGuy
”‘Whatcha talkin bout Willis, ?”

canidmajor's avatar

Revisiting the Yarnpocalypse has me crossing my eyes reading usernames. ;-)

jca2's avatar

@RocketGuy That woman with bunny ears is also known as She Who Wears the Ears of the Hare.

Back to normal . . . . all graphics returned.

@longgone Tell Ben that several of us typed the date on @janbb‘s thread asking how cold is it for you, and the date came out as a fraction.

½1/2025 Like this for January twenty first, 2025.

01/21/2025

jca2's avatar

Weird that it works that way but not ½1/2025.

still doing it.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@jca2 “leading Zero” is all it takes – - “01” instead of “1” !

jca2's avatar

Agreed @Tropical_Willie but it still shouldn’t come out like that when I type it the way I type it.

Strauss's avatar

Sounds like your phone went into some weird mode for reading websites.

jca2's avatar

I’m using computer, not phone, @Strauss.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Okay try this parenthesis r then parenthesis. . . .you get®

Tropical_Willie's avatar

(r) needs a word in front of it like this – - -word(

01/22/2025 is not the same as ½2/2025

Punctuation
The punctuation formatting is mostly intuitive.

“quotes” → “quotes”
‘quotes’ → ‘quotes’
it’s → it’s
em – - dash → em — dash
en – dash → en – dash
2×4 → 2 × 4
foo( tm ) → foo™
foo( r ) → foo®
foo( c ) → foo©
