Why does Google Maps not let me choose a route? (details)
From Point B to Point A it shows the route I want to take.
But since I am going from A to B, I tell google maps to take me from Point A to Point B. But it won’t let me choose the B-A route.
I figured it out, but why would it not show me how to get there the same way it shows me how to get back?
Asking here because Google shows me solutions for a different problem.

I can’t help you, except to help you complain. Computers can be downright idiotic. Many years ago I had bought a Garmin GPS to help me get around in my new state of Delaware. I asked it to take me to a local grocery store (which had been in the same spot for almost 20 years). Garmin had no clue it was there. How is that possible? The store had been there long before GPS was even invented, and it was on the map on my computer at home!
Another time I was in downtown Newark, Delaware, and I needed to go west to my small town, but I was unfamiliar with the route. Garmin refused to help me unless I took the toll bridge to New Jersey, then turn around and go back across the river to get to my house. That was an expensive trip.
Sometimes I will put a stop on the route where I want to go, even though I’m not stopping there, I will use that as a way for it to put me on that route. For example, when I’m going from a friend’s in NJ to my house, it will want to put me over the (former) Tappan Zee bridge, and I hate that way, so I’ll put in Walmart in Fishkill, because it’s closer to another bridge, and then when I’m nearby, I’ll put in my house, so it takes me home from that bridge.
From Google maps – - “Directions”. there is a set of up and down “Arrows” to the right, click and reverse the the route.
Theres a one way street on the route?
@Tropical_Willie When I do that, the route I want to take goes away.
@jca2 I have never tried that, I heard that it stops the directions until you mark the stop as done?
@Lightlyseared No, it was all normal backroads
@snowberry Forcing you to take toll bridge? They are conspiring together. Ridiculous.
Maybe try Bing maps. It’s what I use.
@MakeItSo1701 maybe “your route” in that direction is not valid (bridge is out in one direction due to damage).
I forced the map to let me take that route both ways anyways.
There was no road blockages.
Just a stubborn map.
When I’m driving, i use Waze. Itsfree and sends me on the fastest way around traffic jams, and it lets me know if there’s construction, police, etc.
Well it defaults to the fastest route.
If you already have a route you want to take, why do you even ask Google?
My husband would get puffy about the route Google suggested, and go the we he wanted. Which always took longer.
Because I knew I did not want to take the highway, I only wanted backroads. But I still needed to know where to go.
It showed me 2 routes to get there, 3 to get back.
OH OKAY under options “Avoid Highways” ! ! ! !
That was selected^^^
I am just going to assume it is a glitch. All your responses are valid troubleshooting, I went through that all myself.
Thanks all
I just did three different 25 to 35 miles trips with parallel highways, none came up with using the highway. Most were 10% to 20% longer trip by avoiding highways . . . but they sent me on back roads.
Must be a glitch I agree.
It’s not even Easter yet. I find that adding interim stops along my preferred route helps.
Also I seem to be able to just touch and drag the line to my intended route.
@Dutchess_III I’ve been watching the Kilauea volcano streaming on my TV in case it stops before I get there for my birthday in 12 days.
Does it have a senic option?
Thank you @jca2. I knew a I was spelling it wrong. But spell check doesn’t work like it used. And I’m fairly bad at spelling!
