All of them I suppose. Except sweet potatoes. You have to add brown sugar and marshmallows to them.
Don’t know exactly how Rick did it, but he did it. Along with grilled salmon.
To die for!

I use russets for everything because they are cheaper.

But pound for pound are they cheaper @YARNLADY?

Any potato can be cooked in a microwave. Leave in its jacket and butter and salt it afterwards. My mother used to bake sweet potatoes and then cut them in half and give them to us to eat plain.

@Dutchess Potatoes are sold by weight so saying they’re cheaper means they’re cheaper “pound for pound.”

YARNLADY's avatar

@Dutchess_III Yes, we compare everything by the price per unit.

I didn’t say anything

Cannot answer that.

My work was selling 5lb russet for 99 cents for a while.

Depends on state, store, etc.

Dutchess_III's avatar

So are all potatoes sold at the same rate per pound? Both russet and Idaho potatoes are $.50 per pound (for example)?

And who is “We” @YARNLADY?

MakeItSo1701's avatar

No.

Sweet potatoes are weighed individually at my store, for example. I would have to check, but I believe our small red potatoes are not the same price for a same size bag as the russet.

Some potatoes are sold in 3 pound bags some in 5 pound bags and some 10 pound.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I know that @Tropical_Willie. But the overall cost isn’t what what we’re talking about.

YARNLADY's avatar

@Dutchess_III In our household, we means my husband and me. Overall cost is exactly what I am talking about. If a 5 lb bag is $5 and a 10 lb bag is $6, the 10 pound bag is cheaper.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Of course @YARNLADY.
The question is which potato type is the cheapest per pound. Say Russet v White?

YARNLADY's avatar

Russet potatoes are nearly always cheapest unless there is a special sale. We usually pay $2 or less for a 5 lb bag.

Russet potatoes are best for baked potatoes. They become fluffy. Red potatoes are better for stew. They hold together nicely during cooking.
