We had a few inches of snow yesterday and it’s going to be 20 F. or less for the next few days. Some lovely person cleared my driveway and sidewalk yesterday but I’ll have to go out and clean off the car in a bit.
Supposedly it’s cold throughout much of the country. How are you doing?

Right now it’s 19° F, sunny and very pretty out. I’ll do some paperwork, then bundle up and go out and clear stuff.
Thinking popcorn and maybe a movie or two for the afternoon!
Stay safe and warm, everybody!
27* F at sunrise. 31* F At 9:00 AM.
@canidmajor I was going to bake my banana cake today but they’re still not ready. Maybe tomorrow.
And, if you have Prime, Touch is a lovely movie to watch.
@chyna Aren’t you glad you’re retired on a day like this?
It’s 17F here at 9:30 am. Living in the middle of the Lake Effect snow band, we got about a foot of snow last night. I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere. I’ll fire up the snowblower a little later..
About 4 degrees. We got almost no snow this so-called “winter”.
4F at 9am. Supposed to be -11 tomorrow night.
I stand corrected on my loli specific joke.
I live somewhere where the overnight low is often around 70 degrees. It’s 75 now. Tropical weather is something else.
My parents report lows of 37 in the Bay Area, which is cold by California standards, but mild compared to what most of the country is experiencing.
Have to say that being able to walk (waddle?) like a penguin is very useful in ice and snow. I just got my car cleaned off enough to park it on a sunny street. There is a lot of ice around and I think we got about 3 or 4 inches of snow.
Currently -4 F with a windchill of -20 F at 10am. We have an extreme cold warning. Tonight it’s supposed to get down to -14 with windchills of – 25 to -35 F. We’re only supposed to get up to 2° today and 1° tomorrow. We’ll warm up to 21° Wednesday so the extreme cold won’t last too long.
Right now it is 39 F, 33 F with the wind chill. Supposed to go down into the 20’s at night and then they are forecasting snow tomorrow afternoon/evening/night. That is a panic situation down here. I haven’t looked but I can see people stripping the grocery store shelves for 1 day of snow.
14⁰ F and snowing.
I can’t go anywhere any more, but when I was working I’d get up, start warming the house, take a moment for myself, go start the minivan, which had no heat, wake up the kids and then the usual morning bustle.
Go check on the progress of the van, clean and scrape the windshield as best I could.
Go in and make sure the kids were bundled up for the chilly ride.
Get everyone to the car, make one more pass at the windshield, then we’re off.
One memorable morning, I stuck my head out the door….and immediately snatched it back in and yelled “School’s cancelled! Go back to bed!”
It was coooold. With the wind chill it was -50⁰.
Sheeit no!
^^ I loved snow days off from school. Even if it was for the kids!
In my case it was serious. It meant a whole day’s pay. :(
Not very cold compared to the rest of the country. It’s dipping into the low 40’s at night. (California)
@janbb….this was the 90s. Getting word about closings took some time.
On this day I instantly called snowday whether it officially canceled or not! No way in hell was I taking the kids anywhere.
When I got up it was 4 degrees—some mild frost on my windshield. It should warm up to about 13 today.
Yeah @janbb, but you had listen to it for 15 minutes until they repeated the closings, or go watch for it to scroll across the bottom of your TV screen.
I’m saying I made the call myself, instantly.
16 and overcast but no snow in SW Mo. Feels like 9.
We had our cold snap earlier in the month and it is now mild at around 44F. Expecting wild and windy weather later due to a very fast Jet Stream.
-2 but feels like -15
Last night it was almost -30
Sorry, just woke up.
It feels like the extreme negatives. Right now it changed to 0 degree real temp, -17 real feel
Fahrenheit or however you spell it
The high here today is 18
24 degrees as of 2 p m Monday, ½0/25.
4 inches of fluffy snow fell yesterday between late morning and midnight.
It was pretty easy to clean because it’s so light and fluffy, but I put de-icer on the windshield because I could tell it’s going to ice up.
A few years ago, I broke my windshield because the whole car was covered by a sheet of ice, and we were going out, so I got in the car, started it, and after about an hour I turned the heat on and put the wipers on, and the movement of the wipers on the icy windshield cracked the glass. I don’t want that to happen again, and I don’t have an hour to sit in the car tomorrow.
I typed the date properly above but you see how it came out. Very odd.
Autocorrect is very persnickety. (Did I use that word right?)
We down to -19. I only let the dogs out long enough to go to the bathroom. Those nutjobs still want to be out longer though.
It was 24*F here in Tacoma at 05:00 am today. It’s 37*F now (11:35 am).
-14c here. Tossed 6 bags of garbage in the dumpster, very cold.
63 degrees here. Going to 47 tonight. South Florida.
I went swimming in a pool in Florida when it was low 70s and everyone who lived there called me crazy. I’m like, I go get the mail in 2° weather with no coat on. 70s is PERFECT
Kansas here.
When I was about 13 I spent the night with a friend. When we woke up it had snowed about a foot.
She lived across from a 2 lane highway, and beyond that were railroad tracks. We heard a train acomein and we RAN outside barefooted, ran across the highway and about 15 feet into the train easement /land grass and waved wildly at the train as it passed, jumping up and down so the conductor could see we were barefooted!
He gave us a mighty blast on his horn. We hung around for another minute then we ran back across the highway to the house.
FUN TIMES!!!!
I don’t know if you live by me, but it’s pretty much the same for me. Highs in the 20’s and it’s actually going to be able to teens on Wednesday. We got maybe two and a half inches of snow where I am, but thankfully my rental management company has once again done a fantastic job on our streets and sidewalks. They are dry down to the pavement! The sun managed to melt all the snow off one side of my car before it went around the other side of the building this morning. I will probably just sit in my car and run the defrost tomorrow morning to get the rest. That’s if I have to go to work. An email sent out this morning said that our parking lot was only good to use as a skating rink for now.
I’m looking at the temp on my phone and I see that at 6 am (Tuesday), it’s going to be 6 degrees.
Tomorrow’s overnight temp is going down to 2. Wednesday will be 7. Thursday 11. Friday 8. Saturday 23. Ugh for this whole week. Ugh ugh ugh.
^^ Could you please go back to your own Avatar? I waas thinking you were talking about Sacremento!
9F this morning, 14F while I ran errands this afternoon, currently 4F. Supposedly tomorrow and Wednesday will be colder.
I’m waiting for the Hawaiian to tell us it is 76* F . . . .
As a witch’s patootie.
More specifically, we had about 8–10” of snow fall last night and it’s currently 14°F here, north of Boston. Looks like single digits the next few days.
@jonsblond: -35°F Windchil (!!!)
Great googley moogley that’s cold!
60° F on my front porch at 5:00 PM. In the 40s tonight. Brr, chilly.
@janbb, I’ve read that a little touch of the microwave can hurry your bananas along.
^^ Yes, we have no bananas, we have no bananas today. (See my other question.)
@Jeruba My bananas are embattered even as we speak.
@cookieman I went shopping Saturday and stocked up on supplies for a few days. I did the same for my father so we don’t have to leave home. I’ve been cuddling with the pets in my room all day watching Netflix and I just made some beef stew. I’m safe warm and hopefully the car starts for Jon in the morning to get to work. He may need to stay home! Schools have closed for tomorrow.
It’s really cold. I think it’s -3ºC right now, but it’s even been a few degrees colder this last week. Beautiful frost-coated trees everywhere, quite unusual for my area. I’ve lost faith in a just and good universe, however, because this cold only brought a couple days of snow. So annoying. Usually, there’s weeks of near-constant rain, but it’s too warm for snow. Now it’s cold enough, and the precipitation is lacking. Instead, we got so much fog that at dusk, I was only able to see maybe three meters ahead. In the forest, all the cobwebs are highly visible because icy humidity is clinging to them. I’ve had to duck several times, and I’m a little concerned. I might just constantly be walking through cobwebs without noticing.
@longgone (Hugs) We haven’t had a lot of snow this winter but since it didn’t snow at all last year, the few that we’ve had have been reassuring.
High 50’s, low 60’s and sunny every day this week.
½1 12:55am
-8 with a real feel of -23 <3
My phone did the fraction as well! 1/ 21/ 25
I want to throw hot water outside
Today it was 43° F, but I was good with that.
Last month I was in Michigan, where my weather app said it was 16° F, but feels like -5°. It actually said that!
I haven’t complained about the cold since I got back.
My computer says it’s 4 degrees here now, 6 a.m. Tuesday the 21st.
-10F this morning. 10 inches of fresh powder yesterday. Skiing was great yesterday in 5F temp with new snow and few people on the slopes.
No such thing as bad temps, just bad clothing selections.
@chyna, your weather is dumber than mine (9°)
It’s getting ugly. Garbage hasn’t ran in three weeks.
I think it’s 11 here now. I’m not going to water aerobics.
Currently -14°F with a windchill of -35° at 8am. My husband said the car read -15°.
Sunny and -4, wind chill -18
27 F in Atlanta as of 10am ET. 40 percent chance of snow after 12 noon. Low tonight forecast at 15.
It’s a toasty 11⁰ right now.
-6 and -24 feels like.
I do not want to work
“cuddling with the pets in my room all day watching Netflix”
@jonsblond: That sounds like good way to ride it out!
Only -5c here right now.
Looking to get just above freezing today.
Funny. Today’s Meals on Wheels was a hot turkey sandwich.
A HOT TURKEY SANDWICH!
Hahahahaha!!!!
I’m an hour north of Orlando and this January has been colder than usual. We always reach these temps, but usually it is just for a few days and then we go back up to warmer weather. We usually have about 10 days in January that are outright cold. Today, Tuesday, 1.21.25 we had a high of 55, which in Florida feels more like 50. Supposed to go down to the 30’s tonight.
@JLeslie Better get out the smudge pots to the orange groves!
It’s snowing outside, right now, in Charleston SC. Rare sight.
3 degrees. 9 am Wednesday.
Heat wave @ 29 F 9:30am cst
Have a heat wave comin! 47⁰ F on Saturday!
@canidmajor folks from Louisana are carrying on about this once in a life time thing. But FB memories showed them doing the same thing last year. And the year before.
But no snow last year in Louisiana, which is the gripe. They’re stuck home because no snow plows in Louisiana.
@Dutchess_III Silly ol’ them. I’m just old, my house is poorly insulated, and the more I age, the less I find New England winters amusing. <pissy, frownie face>
Forecast for Thursday sunrise 12* F.
@canidmajor Many people move down south, after retirement. No secret, right.
There are a multitude of gorgeous, sleepy coastal towns, in the south, where you could watch the sailboats, year round…
^Yes ma’am. I imagine you love your home, but you would not be the first person from “up north,” to move to somewhere in the American south, to get away from the snow. It’s not redneckville everywhere.
I’m not a fan of you having a “pissy frowny face,” because of the cold…I was just offering a suggestion. Apologies, if overstepped.
Parts of Southeastern Florida are still “Northeastern” if you want a few months of warm during the winter.
Not quite sure how “pissy, frownie face” translates to moving.
What @MrGrimm888?? The pissy frownie face mirrors the way all older people feel about it getting so cold, when it didn’t bother us when we were younger.
We just don’t handle it vey well any more. >pissy frownie face<
32 degrees Friday. Feeling like it’s summer weather.
Sunday going up to 41. Feels like spring.
